With the shut down of The Realm Online in just a few days, we see another old-school MMORPG consigned to history. It got Bradford thinking: how many of us are still playing our first MMO, or have we migrated away - or were forced away through because they just no longer exist?

    Not really to be honest.

My first "MMO"-like game was Guild Wars 1, which is not a true MMO.
And the first MMO that I played for a long time and quite a lot was World of Warcraft.

But WoW lost me a long time (WotLK) ago and I haven't played GW1 in ages - though I do love logging into GW2 every once in a while.

Still, it will never be the same as it was back then.
Because I too started playing this genre back in my student days and my life simply changed too much to play MMOs the same way as back then.

    In a way I guess I am.

SWG was my first MMORPG, and I'm currently playing SWGEmu.

I would love to re-play vanilla / SoA LotRO, as that was really my MMO highpoint, but such a thing isn't possible.

My first MMO was Everquest. I play it still from time to time, mostly on the progression servers. I find my taste in Live's content to be waning, tbqh. Everquest II is also in a state where if I do play it, it's mostly on TLPs as well.

RIFT died in it's infancy, which was a bit disappointing. If the EQs ever died I swore this would be the game I stuck with, hilariously, but it too is not in a great spot lol.

FFXIV is my only modern solace, it and the occasional ESO.

I remember saying as a kid that I could clap everyone with one arm tied behind my back in Lineage 2.

... well I broke my right arm and the only game that I could play seems to be Lineage 2

And fuck yeah, I can clap people in it still :D

Though I'll probs uninstall after 10 days when I remove the casts. Fun times tho

EQ1, I do go back for a visit once every couple of years. Click my J-Boots (36hrs straight to camp them) and then kite a few mobs and log off. Just makes me happy to see my chars there still with their names and loot intact.

Lineage 2 was my first mmorpg and "no." Making in game money in order to buy items/gear was starting to become it's own job.

Too much time and work needed.

I specced as a Sword + Item Magic melee but I couldn't do anything against golems. Then they added a blunt sword to the game and all was well :)

I played DAoC from launch and bounced between EQ1 and DAoC for years and years. WoW took me away from all of that as well. Was a long stretch with WoW. Most grounded combat I have played.

My first MMO was Ultima Online which I beta tested over dial up. For many reasons (connection speed being important!) that did not stick past testing. My first subbed MMO was City of Heroes which I do occasionally play today thanks to the fine peeps of Homecoming.

My first MMO was DAoC - hooked me over years, made good friends there which are still around IRL. But no, I'm not playing it anymore.
I switched to EVE Online afterwards, that's something that I'm still playing. After EVE every other MMO seemed dull. Tried some others as well (WoW, SWTOR, ESO, etc.) but always bounced back to EVE - so it's my second MMO that I'm still playing :)

SWG actively?  No, but I have and still visit and run some missions from time to time in SWG: Legends.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

First MMO, first computer game ever, was EQ. I was always more the jock in school. I never got into games, other than mortal kombat, while I was in high school. Years after I graduated high school I got injured and couldn't do much physically for awhile. A friend told me I should try EQ. I had a few friends playing it so I loaded it up. I was clueless for awhile but for me at the time, it seemed like a truly virtual world. I played it for years and my journey into nerdom at the time was complete. It hooked me. I continued with EQ for 3 years or so before moving onto DAOC and getting my first taste of PVP. I've tried to go back to EQ but can't really seem to stick with it. The world seemed so large then, but going back I realized each zone felt more the size of a closet now. They had some great dungeon layouts though I give them that.

That's a hard one because the first mmo I tried was UO then EQ, wasn't in love with them because at the time I was more into fps and actiony singleplayer games, and RPG just felt to slow to me. The first MMO I actually really played religiously was SWG up until the NGE. Tried all the emus but it's more like visiting a museum now and you rarely see the type of community we had back in the day.

My first was Everquest. Then was Dark age of Camelot and WOW. I still go back to WOW every now and then. EQ and DAOC...probably never will again.

First (that I tried): UO dont play it ever
Second: EQ will play occasionally maybe a month a year
Third: Anarchy Online will play it maybe 3 months a year

I probably spend the rest of the time looking at new games...I can only do the older games for so long because its a been there done that feeling.
