They might actually get $15 out of me to play the game again for this.

Been enjoying all the hardcore death compilations on Youtube, and it's driving that itch to go back to the game I experienced 20 years ago, something Classic releasing never did.

Hope they have mitigations in place to stop griefing, and fix the dumb game designs vanilla had (infinite Z axis range, quest targets attacking others, falling through terrain, etc), and probably something to pardon elevator deaths (notably undercity), else it might really kill people's drive to push to the end.

Lame hardcore mode. Whoever plays this version of Hardcore Classic is a fool

What's the point of a Hardcore mode in an MMO? Maybe in a game like Guild Wars 1, sure(Leg.Survivor, especially the oldschool version of it), but in a full, oldschool MMO? With Dungeons, Raids, PvP etc? Not to mention online and all the hiccups.

Excuse me? And I say this as a general fan of Hardcore-like stuff.

One potential a problem with their ruleset that I read about is that players can still receive mail, use the AH, and trade (which are forbidden in the unofficial community ruleset). That means high level characters can feed items and gold to low level characters, so we may still see botting and RMT on these types of servers.

So, an entire server where much of the player base will only tackle content with little to no risk.

    Fun.

As interested as I am in seeing people die to random stuff, its still just funny to me that it takes blizzard so long to catch up to ideas that private servers have been doing for nearly a decade at this point. Next thing you know, the 'survival mode' where you can only equip what you loot/make will be news (forgot the proper name people gave it).

I just finished my second vanilla HC run this week as well as my first WOTLK ironman, both on private servers.  Their proposed system is pretty weak with completely open trade.  That alone makes the challenge a joke.

Full grouping is so much easier than doing it solo, if the players are competent.  They really should implement an optional solo mode that prevents trading and grouping.  An optional ironman mode, where you can only equip gray and white items, would be great as well.

WOW leveling is perfect for it.  You most definitely don't have to do any dungeons while leveling.  I just find it really rewarding and fun for some reason.  Hardcore mode in ARPGs are definitely not fun for me though.

I agree that once you hit the level cap, hardcore mode loses it's appeal.  Which is why those petrification flasks are so necessary.

Whats the difference between this mode and the Classic server that launched back in 2019?

I guess what i am wondering, what is 'Hardcore mode' in a nutshell?

EDIT: Whataminute; is this basically the ironman challenge? where if you die it's over?

If so, this..... isn't going to do well. The thing about classic era WoW (Vanilla) is that it's extremely easy to die, like... stupid easy, and to dumb stuff like bugs.

The whole ironman challenge only worked because a lot of those stupid bugs that got people killed so easily were fixed post-TBC

Also, you know the opposing faction is going to train enemies to player locations so they get killed.

This may simply be Blizzard using these old ideas as a tactical approach to keeping sub numbers up; i mean FFXIV kind of stole their title as the top subscription-based mmo back in 2020; and that probably hasn't changed much since then.
