It's a new dawn and a new day, and World of Warcraft's Classic Hardcore is finally on the way. Robin chats with Blizard's Nora Valletta and Josh Greenfield about the much requested feature ahead of this week's PTR release.

Thursday 6/29. I don't think they have given a time yet.
Been enjoying all the hardcore death compilations on Youtube, and it's driving that itch to go back to the game I experienced 20 years ago, something Classic releasing never did.
Hope they have mitigations in place to stop griefing, and fix the dumb game designs vanilla had (infinite Z axis range, quest targets attacking others, falling through terrain, etc), and probably something to pardon elevator deaths (notably undercity), else it might really kill people's drive to push to the end.
Excuse me? And I say this as a general fan of Hardcore-like stuff.
Fun.

Full grouping is so much easier than doing it solo, if the players are competent. They really should implement an optional solo mode that prevents trading and grouping. An optional ironman mode, where you can only equip gray and white items, would be great as well.
I agree that once you hit the level cap, hardcore mode loses it's appeal. Which is why those petrification flasks are so necessary.
I guess what i am wondering, what is 'Hardcore mode' in a nutshell?
EDIT: Whataminute; is this basically the ironman challenge? where if you die it's over?
If so, this..... isn't going to do well. The thing about classic era WoW (Vanilla) is that it's extremely easy to die, like... stupid easy, and to dumb stuff like bugs.
The whole ironman challenge only worked because a lot of those stupid bugs that got people killed so easily were fixed post-TBC
Also, you know the opposing faction is going to train enemies to player locations so they get killed.

This may simply be Blizzard using these old ideas as a tactical approach to keeping sub numbers up; i mean FFXIV kind of stole their title as the top subscription-based mmo back in 2020; and that probably hasn't changed much since then.
