Can't wait. Hope the release goes smoothly. Higher level cap is awesome.

Still kind of close. It isn't like a few weeks is going to make that much difference to the players. They've waited this long, why not just wait until the Xbox and Mac versions are done too? I guess it does give them some breathing room for marketing buzz before it's drowned out by the Starfield hype.

Smart move because Starfield is going to crush everything in its path for a while. This will at least grab the folks stuck between games needing something to hold them over. Still, it's going to be an awesome game on its own and I think will have a solid following regardless of Starfield.

I'm going to say BG3 GOTY and Starfield D.O.A.

I have purposely avoided playing this during early access just so I can experience the best version of it when it launches. And now I'm super happy that they have moved up the launch so I can get some time with the game without Starfield taking up my time. And to your point about having a solid following, the extra few weeks may make me fall in love with BG3 so much that I wait for what I expect to be a space train wreck of a Starfield launch to work itself out before switching over.

I've always loved the BG games since the first in the '90s and I've liked the Larian D:OS games as well so I'm happy they're doing it. I should be excited but I'm not.

Maybe I'm just group CRPG burnt out at the moment. I really don't know why.

I'm sure I will eventually play it and enjoy it but it won't be this August.

I have zero faith Starfield will remotely live up to the hype.....at least until modders actually make it good.

Of course not because gamers have impossibly high standards that simply cannot be met. Obvious example: Diablo 4. The game made over $600 million in its first week. WEEK. Let's just put that into perspective a little. That's more money than Star Citizen "The most expensive game of all time" raised in a decade, and they don't even have a finished product. Diablo 4 blows past that number in a week and still you find people taking about what a crappy game it is. Really? What would a good game earn? A trillion dollars? Nah, unless someone releases a real life holodeck from Star Trek that can simulate any fantasy so realistically that you can't distinguish it from reality then the game will be lambasted as not living up to the hype by someone.

Yeah... every time I see that a game has "great mod support," I read that as the game being an incomplete, broken POS if you don't install an actual fuckton of mods.

Kinda been their drum for a while now with the personal attacks on fictitious others, part of the reason I've pointed out the distinctions to be made between liking/disliking a game or game features, and making assertions about others based on such.

But if you want to argue a different implication, then feel free to show something to back up whatever position you want to take. Coy swipes because one wants to taunt others without merit are not well perceived.

Since when is good = profitable? What are we? Blizzard shareholders? No, we are gamers and as such, we shouldn't base most of our review, impression etc on profitability, RoI etc.

Also, a person CAN DISLIKE a popular, super profitable thing, you know?

Just because it sold a ton of copies, doesn't automatically make it a good game!

The vast majority blindly buy games on hype and IP popularity alone.

When it comes to D4, let's see how many are still left playing during and after Season 1. ;)

hmmm depends on why people bought it. I intend to buy and but I have no interest in "seasons"

Not everyone plays these games over and over and over and over again.

Heck, I played D3 and never once played any seasons. Once through, was fine and I was done.

The thing is we don't know why people buy games and whether they think they are good but they get on to other things or if they think they are "ok" but don't intend to finish.

I suspect Diablo 4 is a "good game." Then you can factor in people's preferences and nitpicks and everyone's mileage may vary.

"there will be 46 subclasses at launch, with nearly half of them being new, across all of the classes."

Hello classless MMORPG's with no design depth, this is why you should have stayed classy!

wow nice! happy to see we get 1.0 release earlier on PC then originally planned; i can't wait!

I'm also happy it spreads out a bit more time between Starfields' release, as i want to spend a decent amount of time on both games.

Here is a good video outlining a lot of the launch features. image image

The classes are ... quite conservative imo. I probably shouldn't compare it to UB mod Solasta. But even without ... /tsk.

But hey! Duergar is playable! At fucking last! :)

The class selection is okay, in my opinion, but the subclass selection feels very spartan in its flavoring. Clerics and Wizards make the list look robust, but those are just spell or domain disciplines that have existed since 1st Edition. Every other class but Paladin has 3 very focused options.

So, this has both some strong plusses and minuses. Groups have 4 slots, last I read, just like Solasta. This means every class and subclass needs to be viable. There is no DM to make flavor adjustments for clever role-play.

This is good because it looks like every subclass will be viable. The bad aspect to this being very little room for flavor building, one of the truly awesome features with D&D. This could put a crimp on replay, which stands in start contrast to its predecessors like NWN, Icewind Dale, and its BG parents.

You still have lots of classes to mix and match with, but they will still all need to carry the same kinds of tools and, for me, that translates into replay feeling much the same as before.

Todd Howard has said there is more hand tailored contact in Starfield then Fallout and Skyrim combined. The empty worlds are there for farming and for people that just to enplor. Also Starfiled, much like the other games they have made. Will be getting updates and DLCs for the next 10 years or so. They already have a DLC of new story already to release.
