Star Wars: Outlaws looks to be huge, and not just in terms of impact on the gaming landscape. The open-world Star Wars game sounds like its planets could be as big as some Assassin's Creed games themselves.

Looks ok, just that I can't play a female. Never have been able to enjoy a game character that I have to play that is the female lead.

Guess it does not matter to some, but it changes the game from a yes to a no for me.

Wonder how many it will matter to in the end?

Jedi Fallen Order was pretty good, but I'm really burnt out on Star Wars and the Jedi most of all. Marvel and DC too for that matter.

If this ends up being more of an action shooter for smugglers, rogues, and bounty hunters, then I might give it a look.

Look, honestly, towers are the least of a Ubisoft game's problems. All towers really do is give the art team a chance to show off with a great view for the player. Which their art/architecture teams earned, by the way, because their work was so impressive that their games still visually hold up even after 2 console gens.

Yup on my list. If it's half as good as Jedi Survivor I'm down. Star Wars has gotten some good games as of late.

They state in the interview that a planet could be the size of 2 to 3 'zones' from Assassin's Creed Odyssey, so that's a pretty loaded statement; because the planets could also be as small as some of the smallest zones if they are using that as a baseline for size.

Also that comment of distinction may be unintentionally taking Starfields (Bethesda's) way of doing things out of context; while yes the planets are procedurally generated; that doesn't mean it's not handcrafted or has a human touch.

Bethesda's has for the longest time made use of construction kits in their games that have tilesets; all of which are all handcrafted; then they let a algorithm do some of the heaviest lifting with those tilesets; but key spots of importance will always have a human touch in terms of placement and identity, like major cities for example.

This isn't a uncommon practice in large openworld games, and the bigger a world is, the more need for the automation of content creation with some type of algorithm with the use of some construction set.

Ubisoft has been cited to use a couple of different methods to generate their worlds, but no one actually fully handcrafts these things manually. Not even Ubisoft.

I'm interested for sure. This and Starfield have me excited for the Sci-Fi genre of games. I'm pretty burned out on the fantasy stuff. I will say procedurally generated, while easily larger, isn't always better. Handcrafted maps where everything has a purpose and a place can be better than miles of nothing stretching off in all directions.

@Sandmanjw (can't quote you because the quoting problem is still there) Looking at a lot of other major franchises with female leads I highly doubt this will be a problem sales-wise but I can totally understand that statement in terms of immersion. It's the same for me with MMORPGs, but in those ones I can almost always choose a gender. Thats why MMOs with gender locked classes are mostly a nope for me BUT with singleplayer titles where the story and world is tailored around a female character it somehow works for me, and I'm glad it does because otherwise I would have missed out on a lot of great games. Maybe just give it a try and if it still doesn't work for you then it is how it is.

I really just wanted to be able to create my own character and not have another fixed protagonist story-driven game. I appreciate they're going for the open world thing, but open worlds can still be linear (Fallen Order/Jedi Survivor). I want a true sandbox like SWG even if it's not an MMO.

I don't play games with female leads either, but I also don't begrudge them for existing or anything.

I take more issue with pundits who say Assassin's Creed should get rid of gender choices and do a female lead. That's just a step backwards for no reason.

Considering the vast majority of AC Odyssey players chose Kassandra, not to mention the massive success of games like Tomb Raider, I'd say most don't have that issue.
False. Two thirds of players picked Alexios over Kassandra.

The gameplay looks good, I am just on the fence about the map size,

I find that the bigger the map the more filler content there tends to be.
Smaller open worlds tend to have better content density.

If I'm not mistaken, this will be the first Star Wars game released in over a decade that hasnt been touched by Electronic Arts.

That makes me happy! I've been boycotting EA for such a long time now that it has meant not buying any new SW games. I did get to play a couple of their SW games because my brother has them, but they just reinforced my boycott: EA can't make good games.

After playing The Division 2, I feel like I can trust the company behind this new game. Their world building was amazing, I'm sure it will be again with this game. I doubt the combat will be any good, it rarely is, but my excitement for the rest of the game should outweigh this issue.

So, yeh, very excited! This has a very high chance of being the best SW game for over a decade, which then means it has a chance of being one of the best SW games ever!

Looking forward to Starfield this one sounds okay, I am not sure about the main storyline/goal though....a heist.....dunno not really feeling that plot tbh.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I guess he didn't like Tomb Raider back in the day.  I was more annoyed by the semi forced explanation babble and thinking outloud they always throw in their trailers.

"Ok gotta get in my car, but first I need to unlock it, this keyfob will work, there we go, now to put on my seat belt.... oh no it's jammed, whoops it's just stuck in my door, duh.., there now to start the car.

The guy tailgating me is pissing me off, maybe I should brake check hm...better yet I'll just apply window shield washer fluid, what you think doggo?"

Games looks to be decent at least, but I feel like I will still wait to pick this one up on sale. Unless I am foaming at the mouth for a new game when it comes out I don't think I will be dying to pre-order it. Being an Ubisoft game I would rather wait until after it comes out to see what it is like after it comes out.

Could sub to U+. It will probably be on there. Or PS+ Premium, which includes U+.
