They said this years ago too. And its inactive accounts with no games.

    The article was also updated:

UPDATE 7/24: Ubisoft has since clarified that it will only delete inactive accounts that do not have any game purchases tied to them.
    Kind of an important wrinkle
Yes, but looks like a walk back in response to the initial outrage, else why wasn't it part of the initial announcement?
The outrage started from Ubisoft sending e-mail threatening to close an individual account. Then Ubisoft support gave owner of that advice account advice through Twitter, and that individual case was turned into a news story.
This is how news stories work these days.
Every ends up outraged over a story short on actual facts.

I heard a rumor that you're a seething cauldron of rage.
I don't have time to verify that, so I'm gonna go with the rumor on this one.

Don't worry guys, it is only for the accounts they could have deleted anyway before the announcement, which is why they made the announcement. ;)

It was Ubisoft who left out the facts in the email they sent. Ironic post. Don't you have an "I've given up" mega drama chest-thumping thread?

The reason it needed clarification was because Ubisoft was not clear in the first place. Why didn't they clarify that accounts that had purchases were not affected. This is their fault. All the bad publicity from the panic could have been avoided if they had been crystal clear about what type of accounts were facing deletion. We are not mind readers for heaven's sake.

I think they reacted to the backlash, there is no reason to tell players that inactive accounts with no games on them will get deleted.

I can verify it.  It's kind of like the Hulk.  The secret is to always be angry so that stories short on facts don't really have an effect.

They can't do that in Europe. It's totally illegal.
