Given all the nonsense that has been going on up to this point regarding this game, and the lead guy at Iron Mace, plus with the looming threat of the court cases in place that could kill this "early access" release at any time, I just can't see how anyone, with any sense, would want to buy into this game right now. Also after seeing so many false promises to avoid pay to win, I just don't expect them to steer clear of pay to win in the long run, presuming it even lasts long enough for them to get to that state, which I rather expect will not be the case.
Finally, given all the shitty stuff that the lead guy at Iron Mace had apparently been up to, I just can't see a respectable, and effective business being built up around that guy. Personally, I rather expect that they will lose in court, and Iron Mace will likely get shut down.
Yeah I have zero idea why anyone would back this. I actually didn't hate the game, just needs work. But No way no how would I touch this with all this looming over their head. They lose the decision and the game and your money goes bye bye.

Does anyone remember the old days when we just waited for games to come out before we paid for them? Nor were you wondering if a law suit was going to stop you enjoying a game you loved? Those were the days, less drama, more gaming.

Sadly, people have more money than patience and there's more than enough people willing to take said money.

I do! Baldurs Gate 3
I followed this game for some time. Tried the free beta and it was fun. The nail in the coffin is the change in monetization. Arguing that you need these special currencies and purchases to maintain an online game is just BS and lazy. There are definitely other ways about it. I will probably never buy it and just continue watching streamers play.

Well like you say we have stand outs like BG3, but these days they are outliers and mind you even BG3 had an early access. Hopefully SF will also be a winner.

I think gamers are more and more growing tired of the BS and the true developers are starting to see it. We've had an era of indie games now and it seems like studios have taken notice that there's a lot of money in providing good games and not only cash grabs!

It mostly comes down to how so many of "games" made today are service based, while games in the past were all provided as a product. If one stops to think of the recent games that got the most praise for just being really good games, all, or at least the vast majority are games provided as a product, as with them, their goal in their design is to make a good game, and provide enjoyable game play experience.
On the other hand with games as a service, the prevailing goal in their development seems to be generating a profit, and the common profit generating method is to create problems, then sell players solutions to said problems. Put another way, they are purposely making them worse as a game, just to try to make a profit. Since there are so many willing to spend money on them, with some willing to spend absolutely ludicrous amounts of money, even if the "game" doesn't end up lasting more than a few years, they still clearly are able to make a profit, then they use that to produce new profit generating mechanisms, that are pretending to be games.
Dark and Darker is a fantasy dungeon PvPvE adventure. Round your friends up and use your courage, wit and cunning to uncover mythical treasures, defeat monsters and stay one step ahead of the other treasure hunters.

Maybe a dose of Copium or two on that one...

Something launched already that doesn't have stupid monetization schemes?
And this sounds interesting for me:
