At this rate, it'll never make one month.
No way that DE will cut and run after one month but these devs have really hurt themselves. I've seen bad launches before, but this isn't even a proper MMO and they can't get it together. 3 days and they keep shutting down logins and people constantly getting kicked... especially when zoning which is like 90% of teh game since it's mostly running dungeons from the lobby.

Indeed, but you can't play a game if you can't play it. That is I think the more salient point going forward. They may well recover from this, I hope they do but launch woes on this scale leave a lasting impression in players minds. Something similar happened to NW, though here it seems a lot worse. After that NW players were far less likely to give the benefit of the doubt when other issues started popping up and just left the game.

Launch is always going to cause these sorts of issues, but players do not have the sanguine attitude to such problems as I think they should, so the game is going to be in for a rough ride when it comes to player expectations from here on in.

Sad about all these server issues, what i got to play yesterday (3 hours no interruption) was very fun! Combat is fast and like Darksiders, the collection/crafting mechanics mixed with items and trinkets and housing seems to be very addictive.

Hopefully the game survives this launch manages to climb out of the hole.

From personal experience, this kind of thing tends to put me off from trying the game again for a long time (that's if I even decide to try it again). Outriders is a relatively recent example for me, every time it popped up I'd remember the challenges and think that I'd rather spend the money on something else.

That said, I hope they manage to recover from the terrible launch.
  • KumaponKumapon Member EpicPosts: 1,605
The game itself is alright, nothing different from the closed betas aside from a more complete UI. Someone at AS/DE didn't/doesn't want to spend money on server infrastructure apparently. They have failed to fix anything despite continually saying "we're increasing capacity every 15m!" blah blah blah. Tried to login an hour ago and got a 40k queue.

Which is why I rarely try to get into a new MMO early. Better to wait a bit until after they get the early server issues and bugs sorted out.

One area that I don't suffer FOMO from much is the need to be first in, or to the top.

I can wait until it's basically a hassle free experience before wading in.

For me, the poster child was Vanguard. I waited for about a year after it launched before I started it, and I had almost no problems at all. Put it on an SSD, and it ran fine. The launch was terrible though, from what I understand.

That's the danger the developers face. If they launch too soon, people jump all over it and are turned off because it isn't ready yet. The game gets a bad name and flops, although a year later it might be really good. Usually too late to turn around the initial impression.

What got me is that they had really played up this early access. They pushed it back like what 3 different times? And I was in a few of the betas and it ran okay. But they still pushed itb ack and then when it finally launched it was a circus. They have it stabilized better now, but I'm still reluctant to jump in. I'd rather play something else where I don't have to worry about getting kicked off and then being stuck in a queue to get back in.

I guess importing the World of Warcraft artwork somehow messed up "the" server..

A game is SO BAD and SO MESSED UP you can't play it. That's a review in and of itself. They are at almost 10k mostly negative reviews. With the overwhelming number of games on the market most people will turn away from a game like this and never return. They don't have brand power like FFIV or ESO did, they have a game that looks like a WOW clone graphically and plays with forgettable, reheated combat. Maybe I was wrong about six months. Maybe it's just straight up DOA.

I'm pretty amazed they market this as an "mmo" and this is an extremely liberal use of "rpg"

Huge oversight. My opinion is there is a hunger for a new high quality MMO experience right now among players, there is a drought at the moment.

And we keep being met with disappointment after disappointment. People will hurl themselves at a new MMO in the hopes of finding a new gem it's a shame it would appear no one is able to capitalize on that apparently.

I agree does look like WoW but if from what I read on the steam discussion page is true  they are quite literally up the river with no paddle.

I've been lucky enough to get quite a few hours of play in over the last few days. Probably something like close to 20 hours. My wife has gotten maybe 10 hours in. Unfortunately she couldn't get in yesterday most the day because of the invisible queue bug. We even got one of our friends in to play a few hours last night.

All three of us find it very enjoyable. The login fiasco sucks. The game itself is a lot of fun.

I really hope they can recover from this with all those "I payed money for an early access game and I haven't been able to play it. NEGATIVE REVIEW FOR ALL ETERNITY!!"
  • JeroKaneJeroKane Member EpicPosts: 7,098
These devs don't care. They got the cash and screw the rest.

Fixing server issues? Nope. Just put a cap on the server with a barely working queue system and leave it at that.
Screw everyone sitting in 10k+ queue all day. DC'ing left and right and back at the end of the queue again.

You gotta love when they run these servers in the Cloud these days, which would make it ridiculously easy to scale up and/or add more servers.

So let that sink in for a bit.

So glad I did not plunge into this and wasted my hard earned cash on this garbage!

Which is why Steam posts all time review scores plus recent review scores.

You can even filter on the positive ones, negative or a mix.

I feel there are enough tools for a reasonable consumer to discern the wheat from the chaff.

Massive misstep. People don't give a second chance, your launch is everything.

Some people won't,  probably not the type that would have been good, long term customers, too whiny.  :D

No, I get it, especially when a dev is new or the game's IP not established a bad launch can be a quick ticket to closure unless they have the funds to stick it out which was the case with NMS and some others.
