    What a dumb take.

Like or don't like the minimalist screen but going on to project a lack of care or last minute hurry is idiotic.

How can you also miss the fact that this has been the Starfield screen in all their promo material for years now?

I mean if you're going to try to crap on another developer... you should probably have a better track record.

As long as the start screen gets the job done and doesn't get in the way, then I really don't care.

I appreciate an Aesthetic and I like the minimalist screen in Skyrim. There is a consistency to the presentation in Bethesda game menus and I like that too.

No Man's Sky has a very simple, if not more colorful, start screen.

Anyway, of all people, who gives a shit about Mark Kern's opinion? Sorry (not sorry) if that's too blunt, but I think he's an ass. He ruined Firefall. And this sort of trash talk by him is smarmy.

    .... Yeah no.
There are going to be bugs, sure. There are going to be actual problems with the game and literally the title screen is not fucking one o fthem.

Holy shit, the mere appearance of a startup screen does not automatically spell doom and gloom.

It just feels not only like an unnecessary swipe at a fellow developer but something that wasn't needed to be said so publicly.

Just because one can broadcast one's thoughts to millions of people doesn't mean you should.

Is there a Bethesda game that has a more involved start screen? Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind don't have involved start screens.

Not sure what this Kern guy is trying to shit on them for. Start screens are just that, start screens that you should only see for a couple of seconds. Unless of course you plan on having shitty infrastructure and server capacities like most new releases. In that case you absolutely should have an incredibly detailed and animated start screen...since you're going to have your customers staring at that screen for long periods of time instead of playing your game. I personally love the minimalist start screen. If Bethesda do their job right, I'd rather they pour their resources and effort into the actual game play than the start screen.

That has been my thought too. I just thought, how incredibly unprofessional. And the opinion is so widely subjective that he's just wrong and rude how he said it.

Fallout 4 has a more colorful start screen, but not really more involved. Fallout 76 probably has the most complex with options to hit their cash shop, links to news articles and events, and various server options and the premium subscription. The ESO launcher and start screen are a little flashy, but not much more complicated than Skyrim.

Did anyone spot a button for mods and Creation Club?

It could be a big ol middle finger for all I care, I rarely spend more than 2 seconds looking at a loading screen unless the game literally takes forever to load, in which case surf on my phone.

To me it looks like this is style of game menus. Purposely made that way to invoke low tech sci-fi feel

Imagine rushing to design a game menu a couple of years before release, while you have so much essential stuff missing!

When i saw this at first, i thought it seemed kind of silly, but the more i read, the dumber all of this sounded.

I don't know why Mark Kern is making such a fuss; I've played pretty much all of Bethesda's rpg's starting with morrowind on xbox, and i remember pretty much all of them being pretty clean and simplistic in terms of their title screens.

The big thing i've always remembered about Bethesda start-screens are their musical scores, so a screenshot alone for this type of conversation just feels like we're piling way too many clowns into the clown car.

To put it in perspective, these are from their last three Elder Scrolls games. Nothing to write home about AND I don't believe there would be many who would say these were phoned in or lacked care.

They all had their issues, which were fixed over time, each one of these has their die hard fans.

I would call into question the sense of anyone giving Kern the attention he so desperately craves. He's a nobody with a minimal following of incels, not worth anyone's time.

How does the starting screen translate to them not caring? That's pretty ridiculous, shallow, petty, and pathetic if that's seriously a discussion. Talking about having nothing to talk about, sweet jesus help this industry of gamers.

Morrowind and Oblivion at least had that nice font whereas Skyrim looked like they forgot to change the standard font and just went for it. Call me nitpicky but for me that's an important part in terms of immersion in a fantasy world. At least for Starfield the bland font kinda fits the simplistic retro sci-fi feel. Anyway I'm looking forward to hear the score and hope it's as good as the older Bethesda games
