Site for honest stats

KallendalKallendal Member UncommonPosts: 53
Was doing some searching the other night and found a lot of bogus and funny sites about MMO stats in general.
And wanted to ask the community. Is there a viable site (either on you use or reputable) that shows true population stats and statics on use for MMOs?

Thanks.

There really isn't, MMOs don't exactly announce their numbers, or do so with the marketing filter "millions of players" registrations without mentions of averages concurrencies for example.

Due to this, unless an MMO is for example only on steam, like New World, you won't be finding sites that have access to that type of statistic for an MMO.

There isn't these days they have stats like how many deaths, items collected , bosses killed and on and on. Graphs and coloured diagrams that show all sorts of meaningless (imo) data and mined info but numbers of players playing not so much. However one should point out if a game has enough players that enable you to group and enjoy it whether it has 100k or a million isn't going to impact your group of 5 at the end of the day. If the developers constantly update and work on it, that is the most important measure of a game.

Check out the Steam charts, but that is obscured by the fact many in some cases most don't play on Steam.

Edit: MaxBacon already spotted the only way I know of.

Unfortunately, a site like this doesn't exist. Gaming studios / publishers stopped releasing player numbers years ago, if they even bothered to begin with.

There was one website that attempted to collect data on the gaming industry. I forget their name, but they were a sub-division of Nielson (the TV ratings people). Sadly, the website and the company behind it were total dogshit, they didn't understand the industry at all, the data they collected was very incomplete and thus they really struggled to sell their data. Eventually, Nielson shut down the division and gave up.

All games should have to do like EvE. The launcher shows how many people total are connected at any one time.
Due to fact many (most?) EVE players multi-box (which CCP has never been very forthright in confirming) the number of clients connected exceeds the actual number of players by some factor, by how much is a point of much joking and conjecture.

Before CCP started clamping down on players using tools to multibot I met several players controlling mining fleets of 30 plus clients

I never used the tool, but when I left I had been running 6 clients off of one laptop screen for my mining fleets, and most of my friends had 3 or 4 accounts going.

I would say botting in general makes any sort of stats for concurrency suspect. How many bot accounts are running in WoW, or BDO, or Lost Ark? Some games probably have more botters than they do actual players making concurrency stats meaningless.
