Eternal tombs looks like it could end up being very solid. Too bad it's yet another sword and sorcery MMO. Wake me when something else comes along. Idc what, western, scifi, contemporary, anything. I wish Deadlands would become an MMO.

Excited to see some news about possible access for Corepunk, that one's been on my radar for a while.

Why isn't monsters and memories on this list? What's the point of an indie MMO list if it's missing literally THE most exciting one to many fans?

If they had named it Monsters and Mammaries it would be front page every day! Missed opportunity. Oh well.

It is. I've had M&M on the list multiple times. I'd have to look back to find the specific week, but I've even used some of its artwork as the column header image.

If I missed some relevant news from last week about M&M, please send me the link so that I can add it to this Sunday's column. The same goes for any indie MMO. If I missed some news, or you have a new indie MMO that I'm not covering, please let me know.

Would be helpful if the games that are playable/released were marked as such, don't particularly care about updates for games that can't be played.

I want to hear about games that can't be played yet, maybe not every concept art update, but I do want to hear about them.

A tag on playable games would be nice though. I'm more inclined to throw down for something I can play. It could get complicated though because "playable" can mean a lot of things before release.

Would we all agree on what playable means though? I do think articles about an early access game should be marked as such even though we would not agree about that. Valheim is still EA on Steam while other games launch as EA but seem to be more like early alphas. But yes Playable would be better than no Tag at all.

Agreed, 7D2D is Alpha-21 but is extremely playable, CU is on its 4th year of "Beta One" yet doesn't have a playable game loop yet.

Some say Star Citizen is playable right now, other call it a bug filled mess of incomplete systems.

So how do we come up with a Playability rating?

    Never heard of it.

    Welcome to the forums

The most basic explanation is MnM is a classic EQ clone.

That's my point, playable encompasses a wide range in "player access". Since these are all indie "pre-release" titles, I'm only talking about tagging them in this context, in this thread.

Since it's all EA anyway, if a player can download and play the game, to some extent, the tag it. It lets players know if they can get an actual taste of the game themselves, or if they have to trust a third party impression.

A lot of players want "playable" to mean what it does in 7 Days, that it is essentially in a fully functional state, even if it is lacking content or anticipated features. But I think that is too strict and should be up to the player to do a little digging on their own to find out the extent of how they can engage.

Also, this puts even more of a burden on Mitch (the author), who already puts a lot of effort into providing links, formatting, and details. It really doesn't take a reader much effort to click the provided link or search for the game's website and find that out on their own. While it would be neat, this really is a bit of an entitled first-world problem due to our own laziness.

Many of you like to play a game before you buy, something I may end up doing after a few misfires the last couple of years. So how about this, if it is playable enough for you to 'make up your mind' as to whether you will buy it or not, it gets the Playable tag?

I agree with that, but it isn't up to me. Basically anything that lets someone play the game to some point would fit the bill for me.

Special test periods, periodically scheduled access, and short one off and hosted events wouldn't qualify. In order to meet the criteria, for me, we should be able to download and run the game on any given day at our own convenience and schedule.

Also, I'd like to reiterate that this would be a neat feature, but I don't want to make any more work for Mitch because this is already a thankless and often demanding job.

Well are not some early accesses like that, you can play on "any given day". As someone who has never played an ea I don't know?

It is not just the extra work for the staff, if the site started putting that tag on a game we would have the "shill" posts doing overtime. :)
