New World has been having a week thanks to the launch of its first paid expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth. However, as rising player counts have caused queues to return, Amazon has needed to spin up even more servers to combat the issue.

AGS is an absolute joke. I have said it since day 1. The upper management has no idea what they are doing
Apparently the players haven't learned too much either.

They should have taken a leaf from No Man's Sky and continued to pump out free updates for a while yet.
Gamers if you keep acting like a flock of sheep the publication companies will keep gorging on Lamb.
Is this actually what was sold? Initially, it was going to be free to play, but when they changed the model, they gave the free to play/preorder signups the game for..free. Not saying "poor Amazon" or anything, and can't speak to the value of the expansion, but just curious how accurate that number is.
That said; Gotta agree on the previous comment about regression testing. Amazon has been nothing if not consistent on release quality.

Anyone who states how many copies were actually sold is just pure speculation. AGS has never released this information and folks are just guessing at this point. Only thing we know for sure is there were over 900k concurrent players on release. This could mean there were only 1 million copies sold or 25 million copies.....
That being said, the game is very enjoyable now...when you can log in. They have upped the max server size to 3k players, but server stability pays the price for this.
Minus the bugs and server issues and lack of proper QA of new content, this is now close to the game we should have gotten at original release.

I mean...that reads as some significant "minuses" :P
Will agree though, I had fun when I played it. Keep meaning to go back, but always caught up on something else. I tend to only play one or two games at a time. So that and the "team is working on fixing game breaking/mildly inconvenient (depending on who you ask) bugs introduced in latest patch" have kept me from jumping back in...

So this tells me you were already lvl 60 when expansion dropped, you only did the MSQ and not all of the new side quests, and the artifacts you have farmed are the ones that do not have encounter issues.
New characters cannot complete the MSQ, it is bugged and turned off. There are new side quests that cannot be completed. There are new side quests, that only 1 person at a time can interact with the objective ....so there is a line (que) to complete. There are some artifact bosses that only spawn after server reset. (these were fixed during the last patch (saturday night).
It's literally the AWS core marketing model. Pay for additional capacity only when you need it.

What I do believe game companies never seem to do is look back on older games and see the issues they had while creating. To me this is just weird and they seem to be full of themselves. If you see a crap load of games and what they did well in and what they did poor in then you wrap yourself around those issues and create a better game that both. I can't get it for the life of me how they are making this same mistake over and over. By name the gaming industry should not be having the same issues as they had in the late 90s to 2000s at all.
Yep 100% been saying this for a while. This game is a perfect example. It's like they took the last 15 years of mistakes and put it all in one game...it's amazing.
I played it for about 2 months....Hope you get better value out of it than I did.
