I used to play this game, but quit after I realized that it was just a bad game. It's just bad, I really don't know how to describe it otherwise. And don't say "lol, u nevar playd it." because I've played quite a bit, I played back when it still had some potential (I.E. open PvP, player housing, etc.). Now I regret it.
Avoid it all costs if you value your mind and conscious thought.

I'm trying to say, in terms of scale, Runescape is not a real MMO. Which, subsequently, is why it is a bad game.
There is little to no character customization.
All the armor sets are exactly the same model except in color.
There are very few different areas, the world is not very large.
Transportation is slow.
Very little variation in characters, no talents, very few useful spells.
Linear grinding is the main focus of leveling.
Few PvP areas in the game.
Community is poor, immature players, griefers, scammers, etc.
Horrendous graphics, at least the previous engine had a cartoony charm, this new one is just bad.
Terrible customer support.
Little to no staff-to-community interaction.
Very few rewards for advancement.
Little to no game world advancement.
Vague, almost non-existant plot and lore.
Etc., Etc., Etc...
Shall I go on?
I don't mean to diss your game, or bring it to a flame war, but because of the very little thought put in it, it's just a bad game. I suggest for a real gaming experience, try any of the games on the forum list. Every single one of them is more fufilling simply for the fact that they are finished, (mostly) developed games.
If you can refute what I'm saying, go ahead, but I'm just pointing out that you asked my opinion in the first place, and I'm giving to you. Mentioning Runescape at all on these forums usually results in a flame war.
Anyway, have fun!
thx for the posts
i did ask for ur opinion and i respect it even tho mine is different, should anyone need any help on runescape
then plz put them in the topic i created
i am kinda a runescape boffin

People wont give it a chance because it's not graphical and doesn't have skimpy avatars, but the gameplay is greatly diversed. This is one of the few MMOs where you arn't forced to kill everything that moves.
Theres so many things you can do that does not involve hacking and slashing.
Quests are great too, they are indepth and unique. Never repetitive (kill x amount of y). These quests are actual quests with story and require skills other than pve.
And dont call this a carebear game either, because its one of the most hardcore games ive played where your items drop when you die regaurdless of where you are or what killed you. The game setting is very unique too, it's medieval fantasy mixed with a little modern technology.
I'd give up good graphics for this type of game play any day.
yay thanks for the runescape support!!!
most peeps here h8 it, but i will always fite its case
ty for all support, (do u play it) and if u do, wot is ur username?

Most people hate it because they judge it purely on appearance, those people are more suited to play RF online or lineage II or something like that.
One of the things i like most about runescape is the constant updates of new content.
haha i loved this game there was so much more emphasis on fun then on levels
i loved how you were not confined to a specific class and how the economy worked.
Blah. This topic comes up too much. Look, RS is missing stuff. That's really all there is to it. I agree that worrying about the graphics when the game is inexpensive and running in the browser but that doesn't cover that there is so little group content or a system for grouping. The RS community would be much better for it, in my opinion, if they'd taken the time to implement a decent clan and grouping system.
MMO's are also social. RuneScape isn't actually that friendly or social in the vicinity chat... If ever a game needed a clan/guild chat channel, RS is it. Not to mention a shopping channel or system of some kind. Standing around in a crowded city watching vicinity messages and unwanted tells about what people are selling is just weak.
Though in addition to that, the skill system has its good point in its open-ended feature but its so relentlessly long and linear. Ultimately, mining thousands and thousands of ore is as boring as spinning thousands and thousands of flax or killing thousands and thousands of mobs. Though to be honest, I think that open-endedness has hurt the community of the game too. In other games, player rely on each other. In RuneScape, trying to do everything by yourself usually costs less than getting help or hiring someone. Which is a pretty horrendous game mechanic.
Also, despite the insane number of times you have to do things, you improve so slowly it feels like you're not making much progress. Resource gathering and to some extent fighting have such huge luck factors, it overwhelms skill differences.
Furthermore, that system and flaw has lead to the PVP combat being broken in some way for years. First, it was all about training strength up as high as possible. Thus, your combat level would be relatively low compared to how powerful you could hit. Because the other combat skills like Attack and Defense didn't really matter. Then when the new system came out they made magic more effective and added dragonhide armor for people with Ranged weapons. Oops, ranged armor was strong against magic and moderately effective against melee. So as a melee player you had to become a good archer to wear Black Dragonhide. Ta-Daa, now mages have to eat your Dragon Dagger (p) while their spells constantly bounce off your armor. The difference in armor wasn't big enough to be decisive against melee players, and popping on a granite shield gave you a big boost against archers.
The game would be more interesting if there was some limitation on what you could train up so groups would be more efficient than going it alone. As it is, the game is virtually set up so that when someone turns up to train in the same area you feel annoyed.
Someone else also said it... The movement and travel is insanely dull and awkward. Distances feel much longer than they are because of it.
I did play Runescape for a year, and for the first half of that year I enjoyed it. I eventually moved on to FiranMUX (text based online roleplaying game) because it was a better gaming experience.
Basically, Runescape is a cute game which was a very nice free introduction. It never was worth my money, but beyond saying "this area is unavailable until you pay" they don't ask for it.
But really, what isn't good about this game isn't good about many other games either. WoW looks better, but has the exact same flaws. Firan did not.
I'll tell you what Firan had, so you can see what I judge Runescape by:
By all this you can probably tell that I care more to see the story evolve - a believable story - than I care to hack the monsters, churn out the gold or fry the fish (all viable Runescape activities that do not change the world in any interesting way).
Firan isn't perfect either. But it is among the best roleplaying games out there. Role playing, as opposed to acting out a class or skillset alone, which is more often the case.
(Edit: Somehow, the editor boosts some of my text to a larger font, very annoying)
The future: Adellion
Common flaw in MMORPGs: The ability to die casually
Advantages of Adellion: Dynamic world (affected by its inhabitants)
Player-driven world (beasts won't be an endless supply of mighty swords, gold will come from mines, not dragonly dens)
Player-driven world (Leadership is the privilege of a player, not an npc)
Seriously if you're a runescape fan try www.silkroad.net or whatever, its free and it at least has graphics.
I'll agree with that.
I still think they might be better off with Guild Wars. Which is another game I'm not a huge fan of, because I think it's over-rated, but it's the best thing you'll find without a monthly fee.
Oh, another MMORPG; I tried Anarchy Online, and it showed potential. Or rather, it hid potential behind translucent panels of information that were painful to manage. And it grayscaled potential further into invisibility - and then finally put my character in between my viewpoint and the tiny potential I've been told to kill so that I can only see hands and feet lashing out at open air.
I have the impression that if I could ever overcome the painful gameplay it would actually provide some content, which would make it a step ahead from Runescape. But I couldn't be bothered, because the trial-and-error procedure of assigning skill points on level up left my index finger aching.
Yeah, and the aforementioned unmanageable concealment of potential. I just had to put it away. Free even.
I'd say different sooner than better. It is better in content, but Runescape is more readily available to the player. Runescape gives you the content in a way that is much easier to enjoy, but if I had gotten a real start on anarchy I'd have enjoyed that a lot more.

Hello,
I use to play runescape, but not for very long, and at the time I thought it was an ok game, and this game somewhat got me interested in MMORPGs. When I look back at the game now, to me it is crap, only because I have experienced much better games now a days.
The worst things I hated about it is the community, so many scammers, rude people etc. I would never go back to it as I would find it boring, and it's just not my cup of tea anymore now that all these new MMORPGs coming out.
I grew bored of it rather quickly, and that's when I started my search for some better games to play. I mean runescape is a bad game, there is no individuality between characters, not that large of a world, and to me it has no meaning, everyone is doing the same thing, and no variety of skills/abilities, not a large scale crafting system. It just really started to sicken me..
-Right now I am waiting for Vangaurd: Saga of Heroes, offers quite abit, a large world, many races to choose from, different skills/abilities, and many classes, and most of all a large crafting system, this is the type of game I'm into. This game has meaning to me, as there is so much more to do. I would rather play Vangaurd any day then Runescape.
You should check it out

Basalt, if Vanguard doesn't seem like it's the type for you, I would suggest that you look in the Game List and try some other MMORPGs, and you will realize why some of us think Runescape is crap. There should be some games that look interesting to you in the Game List. Anyways, this is just my opinion, I wish you luck.
