Sony doesn't need to do anything, as Bungie has been really good at messing it all up themselves the past years.

Destiny 2's issue are not just Lightfall. The whole microtransactions, paying to access content, paying more to access further content, shelving entire content and every other nickle and dime decision they made it the last two years has come back to bite them.

I did not buy Lightfall because of Lightfall, I did not buy Lightfall because I got tired of games as service that creates classes of players within the game itself.

Just let me play the damn game and enjoy it. For Bungie, that one notion is lost on them.

    100% this.

Yeah this was 100% on Bungie. I was soooo hooked on Destiny 2 when it first came out. Then they nickeled and dimed me right out of the game. I didn't even play Lightfall.

totally agree I have no issue with them making money that is their right. I also want them to be able to pay people a good wage for good hard work. I just felt that they were almost predatory in the way they go about it. It is a fun game with friends and even random people sometimes but to have to buy the expansion then a annual pass or season pass and then a dungeon key. I guess I just do not understand it but to me I felt I was gettting charged for things that should have just come  with the expansion. They do not have a sub and while I havent played in a bit when I did the content was good quality stuff. So maybe they do need to charge all this stuff I dont know just was to much for me.

At least 3 months severance and prorated bonuses is pretty generous. I've definitely received much less before, but COBRA is pretty much a joke. Unless your partner is earning a ton of money, there are often been public or private options.

I left because they banned my friend who only plays with me and nothing else. He was a former halo pro...he was just headshotting all the bots, day 1 of the expansion and then day 2...he was banned....not a single time we went into pvp, all we did was story mode. They wouldn't even listen to his request and say all bans are final.

I feel bad for the employees, but not the company.

Bungie is one of the worst studios in gaming, and they have been ever since Destiny 1 launched.

Destiny 2 has been uninstalled from my pc for quiet a while. It is not likely to go back on ever again. You reap what you sow.

I disagree entirely can you please all gamers all the time? No. But I think you can charge a fair amount make tons of money pay a good wage and make a lot of gamers happy. Your right it is impossible for everyone to be happy about everything. As a game maker I am sure you could point any day to some complaint about something that the majority of reasonable players who like that game can agree is fun.
It seems like a lot of gamers are malcontents with the amount of complaining and hyperbole that gets posted on any game website as oppossed to just saying I don't like it not for me. I bet though if you actually polled like real live actual players of those games they would say I don't like this or that I wish this was different thats not being impossible to please that is just stating preference. I do understand that developers have to at some point say this is our goal or dream or point of this game system and protect players from themselves to an extant. The problem is when more and more of your players who have supported you are saying wow that is no good and it is ruining the game i love maybe you need to do some hard self evaluation. Sometimes things do not hit the mark that is okay. They chased the almighty dollar and screwed themselves. Tomorrow they could fix it but you have to be willing to listen.

Look im not going to go on some crazy rant about shareholders. I wish we could stop making that example though. Do shareholders care about return on their investment yes they do that is the whole point.
Here is two things about that though 1. the common share holder has almost no say in how the company day to day is run or anything really. If bungie came to a shareholder and said were going to bilk our customers up to a intolerable point and your going as a result make 5 more dollars a share this year or next year or the next five years, but it might really hurt our image and future worth and you could stand to loose that value over time or even more. Unless your plan is to make the cash and get out like a bad ponzi scheme and you sell at the right time then you would never go along with that.
    2. All the stock holders usaully only get to vote once or twice a year on company policies, board members and things like that. To really exert any real change you have to go with a group of like minded people and name someone a proxy so that vote carries the weight for change or to get someone who supports your policies on the board. But their are other shares that could be owned by huge funds which really increases their power over the company and their goal could be to bilk the company and sell. In the end most day to day things like prices are set buy the board or the person who the board appointed to run the company or someone he hired to come up with that stuff. The share holders are dependent on good information from those people and some kinda modicum of common sense. What I am saying is that most share holders unless their in the biz of making fast cash and dumping want policies that sustain good consistent long term value.
It is of course very different for private companies with single or few owners then that person who invested is where the buck really stops.

Maybe if the game wasn't monetized to Hell and back, they would actually be able to bring in new players. I would be a returning player (who was thinking about coming back a few months ago) and didn't even know where to start with all the expansions and bundles before I was immediately turned off and gave up on it. I can only imagine how a new player feels getting in for the first time.

Up to a point, studios try to get away with as much as they can while pleasing gamers, this can backfire but we are where we are because gamers have accepted too much monetarization etc and still been happy enough. What do we expect studios to do if we don't kick back, well add NFT's and crypto of course, there is no end to this cash cow until gamers say enough is enough.

I am old school. Still not interested in cash shops and microtransactions. Box price, subscription and DLCs we can talk but try and sell me ingame items and we are done.

Was said by a writer on this very forum many years ago there is almost no monetization hill gamers won't climb and it's largely been proven true with a few rare exceptions like you just mentioned.

Another challenge is the only customers developers and publishers really listen to are those who spend money on their products, those who don't, not so much.

No matter how many gamers there are who do say "enough" there usually are far more who say, "sure," or at the very least, "OK, if I must."

I stopped playing when they thought it was a good idea to remove content I paid for and replace it with content I need to buy. I haven't touched the game since and never will.

Good developers are usually let go last, and it appears they are largely being retained for now.

Bungie isn't laying people off. Those positions are merely being "vaulted" and they'll be back in later seasons.  ;)
