Ok, I'm looking for a MMO that takes some skill.
I'm not looking for a game that when you go into a fight, you just choose what kind of weapon you want to use, click the mob/monster, start attacking, then start hammering buttons as you watch you charatcer wipe at it.
Are there any MMO games like "elder scrolls : oblivion" fighting? So it's first person fighting MMO kind of thing? :P
I've been looking for MMO/FPS games for ages, but it seems they will all be a while before they come out (the ones I havent played atleast) so for now I need an MMO that will do me good
I don't mind if it is like EQII,WoW,GW etc in the way it looks/works, but PvP requiring skill is very important for me
(yes I know alot of people will say that fighting in WoW etc takes alot of skill, getting everything right for the fight is hard, but by "skill" i mean more of a first person skill.)
Yea....so any reccomendations or should I take my idea to a development team?

Yea EvE is a good game, its just not for me. Im guilty for bashing EvE a few times up here over the months, but it does have alot of qualities I like that other MMO's dont have, such as everybody playing in the same world.

I always thought Neocron took some skill. Its a MMOFPS/RPG...and i thought it blended it really well. Though everyone's different.
Dont know whats happened to Neocron since a year or so ago
There alot of points of view in terms of "playerskill" and Im thinking your talking about pure hand eye skills that FPS games offer.
We cant have a pure "hand eye" MMORPG game,it defeats the whole point of skills/numbers and math involed.
Sure the you can improve your pvp luck by having better hand eye skills, and Guild wars offers that,.sure its still based on numbers and math but working your skills is still up to your hand and eye. "wildblow" warrior skill or distrupting chop or bulls strike and many other skills in the game only depend on how good your "hand eye" is.
Im my opinion any game that dont have the classic "1 hitting" has alot of room for player hand eye skills or pre fight preperation. And as far as Oblivian its vrs the AI and i can kill a guard with a lvl1 archer on meduim difficlty.
Buts thats the AI and im sure a crazy maxed out player would just one hit me if it was online. so Oblivian is a bad refrence.
i have put time into most of the main games and they dont offer great pvp to keep me around for to long,I still play eve-online,the pre fight preperation is awsome,.and large scale pvp fights with 200+ players,.
As of right now ill rate Guildwars for the best pvp atm.but its a team based pvp and still dont have that old 1 vrs 1 UO style that i think we all long for.Im playing auto assult right now,. but not sure if i like it.
Ill say give WWII a try,.it has a cool feel to it,. and offers some hand eye skills your looking for.
guild wars takes skill/stratedy.
mainly based on how you use your abilities, and which ones.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Ya but i think he means twitch based skill.
Do any MMO's accually have that?
World War II Online
Planetside
Both twitch and skillbased a lot more than equipment based. Thats it on the MMO scene.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
RYL2 is sort of twitch based, you don't actually ever target someone. You have crosshairs that show the gerneal area of attack, so there is no autoface feature.
The combat is fairly quick and the PvP fights are kind of out of hand when the statue wars start. I have fun playing on the Malaysian free server (completly legit and liscensed), but I am in the states and play in the middle of the night so I hit their primetime and lag a bit because of it.
I did play the American version in beta and it was more stable/lag free, but I believe that it is P2P now. I good trial would be to play the My. version then if you like it go and get the American version.

This isn't the best game in the world, and the controls seem a little wierd at first because the combat style is different, but I have had fun playing it.
I remember some controversy about the stateside version, they had some contest that was basically bunk and had some internal conflict centered around that. It left a lot of people jaded about the prospects of this game. Also, the company that made this game doesn't run it, they lease it: hence, the two different companies running similar versions of the same game.
One thing for certain, it is not EQ/EQ2, Lineage/Lineage][, or WoW.
There is one mmo game that I can think of that takes strong player skill and is certainly different then the standard click "attack" and maybe hot a few hit keys for special strikes or spells...
And that game is LOADS of FUN! When in combat you actually have to keep a fast charging mob in your target in the center of the screen (not easy while your running around trying to evade and dodge its attacks)
Unfortunatle that game is sooo damn expensive to actually play and play the fun stuff... Its way over-priced.
But it is a free to play game. You just cant really do anything fun without investing real money for virtual items like guns, bullets, swords, armor etc.
That game is ofcourse, Project Entropia". The biggest money sucking mmo out there. As much fun as it is, please avoid it if you don't have atleast $50 or $100 you don't mind throwing away to really try the game and have fun.
But it does take a lot of skill. And it is fun as hell.

I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but Roma Victor will have a twitch element in its combat play. Not 100% twitch, mind you, but some. What that translates to when the time comes remains to be seen.
hmm some good replies here thanks. I'll check these games out and keep an eye on them.
Just an opinion
the only skill involved in wow is the *do you have countless hours for this timesink* skill.
what about ultima online? the graphics are starting to show their age, but um, i don't think there's an "i win" button in pvp on uo.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
No, but there's definitely a dirty tricks button in UO. It's there, keep looking for it.
