NCsoft and Sony Interactive Sign 'Strategic Partnership' Deal, Could Horizon MMORPG Rumor Become Reality? | MMORPG.com
Sony Interactive Entertainment and NCSoft have announced a new "strategic partnership" that will cover "various global business fields, including mobile".
I mean, dude, NCsoft hasn't had a decent release since Aion. T&L has been in development hell since 2012. the rest of their games were mobile-emulator releases for KR only. I'm not really sure they're capable of making anything worthwhile...anymore.

I mean Blade & Soul & Guild Wars 2 were both arguably far superior games than Aion ever was, but instead of investing in a proper continuation BnS built on the success of the first game they went the mobile route with the "sequel". A MMO based in the Horizon universe could be really cool, but I imagine to do it any justice it would have to be an extremely expensive game to make.

If by arguably you mean absolutely.
Anyway, Horizon makes less sense as an MMO and more as a Monster Hunter game.
Guild Wars 2 is meh. If it weren't riding on the coattails of its much better predecessor it would have flopped horribly. No one wants another one of those. If ANet announced Guild Wars 3 and it was exactly like GW2, the backlash would be monumental.
BnS was total ass that people played because they had been waiting for a Lineage successor for years and realized, this was all they were getting and would be for many more years to come.
This is the key phrase of intro paragraph: 'that will cover "various global business fields, including mobile"'
This sounds like a strategic partnership for failure from two out of touch companies trying tap into cheap and easy Gaas/mobile money. Sony isn't a game making genius. They're a decent hardware company that built a good platform that happens to own a couple excellent studios. NC can't outperform any of the top Sony owned studios, so whatever this "strategic partnership" is, it will be a cringe miss.

Why would you make a sequel to an MMO only to make it the same? The smart business play is the same as it should have been back when GW2 was announced - make something different enough to attract a new audience while also continuing to support the one you've got.
Blizzard is after all also learning that there is money to be made with both live and classic.

pretty much but i was trying to be more diplomatic lmao. i also agree on the point about Horizon's genre, I don't really know that I can imagine it as an MMO but if they could do it and pull it off then it could be really cool but yeah definitely seems like something that would be an enormous undertaking

Meh, I thought Aion, at release, was far better than both of them.
So arguably stands ?
