Once Human, a new post-apocalyptic multiplayer open-world survival game from Starry Studio and NetEase, will open a beta test tomorrow.  The teams describe their game as "a New Weird Sandbox Survival Game", and now's your chance to see what they mean.

    Weird, and yet it actually looks far better then The Day Before ever probably could at this point.

    Also the fact that this game has a beta test the day before the.... erm, you know, is just making me laugh internally. xD These folks are F'ing smart.
    EDIT: This might be a timezone thing, but on the website it's got the beta saying it's Dec. 6th image But on the actual game launcher it's Dec. 7th image Again, it may just be a timezone thing.

    I really wish studios would stop trying to conflate the concept of Survival with that of Sandbox, they are not the same thing and this never ending incoming wave of survival games needs to live or die in it's own genre.

    Creepy. But this may just be my jam.

    It's got all the characteristics of FO76 which I love with a creepy vibe to it.

    I will say i'm really liking the whole sci-fi aesthetic and the art design, it's also clear they took some heavy inspiration from 'Death Stranding' which is always a good medium to follow and bounce ideas of off.

    I'd love to see more games follow some of Kojima's framework.

    11/30/2023 • ONCE HUMAN BETA TEST 2.0 FAQ

    Hey there, Metas!

    As we gear up for our upcoming beta test, we wanted to give you all the scoop on what's in store for CBT 2.0.

     

    PRE-DOWNLOAD

    The game server will go live on December 6th at 18:00 PST. You can pre-download the launcher on November 30th at 8:00 PST from our website (https://www.oncehuman.game/). Once you launch the game and sign in with your account, just click on the "Enter Game" button, and you're good to roll!

     

    TEST INFO

    - The game server will open on Dec 6 at PST 18:00. That is:

    GMT-8 (Los Angeles, Vancouver): 18:00 pm on December 6th, 2023.

    GMT-5 (New York): 21:00 pm on December 6th, 2023.

    GMT-0 (Greenwich Mean Time): 2:00 am on December 7th, 2023.

    - The Closed Beta Test is exclusive to PC, and only English language is supported.

    Yea I'm gonna try it too. Kinda excited for the basebuilding part of it.

    Everyone can be a shooter looter, but if I can make my own little encampment in the end, that's a game changer.

    Damnit. I hope they let us change our emails. I just realized I used my spammy email addy as a "muscle move" instead of my own email. :x

    Word to the wise: its just under a 40GB download, so while I have steam I signed up on the website since Steam not allowing us to pre-download.

    EDIT: Oh and it has a ~500MB launcher it downloads firstly, so get that downloaded then you can sitback as the client itself downloads after.

    First time I'm stoked for a game in a long while and I literally just found it from an MMORPG.COM article last night. Rofl.

    What a coinkeydink.

    EDIT 2: At work, the 3 games people are mainly playing are:
    - FO76
    - Apex
    - A rainbow 6 shooter (idr which, sorry, also mainly on console)

    And alot of ladies at work are playing:
    - Latest sims
    - Stardew Valley
    - Apex
    - Maplestory 2
     
    Just passing the word on.

    I'm looking forward to it too. I'm not usually a big fan of survival games. But I really liked the trailer and after seeing more about it, it doesn't take itself too seriously. Some of the monsters look crazy so I really want to get in and check it out

    Looks like a cool blend of FO76, 7D2D, and Silent Hill, with a dash of Resident Evil thrown in for good measure.

    It's the developers themselves that call the game a weird sandbox survival. They just quoted kek

    My problem with the game due to poor eye sight, is that the pop ups are so small that it is next to impossible for me to read them using an 80 inch tv.
    That is a major black mark to me.

    Only west coast servers listed.

    Could not get the game to start after the survey.

    A monitor would be a better idea surely, what resolution does the Tv run at? I guess they don't have UI upscaling but then it is early days.

    TV is a 4k LG connected to RTX 4090 desktop.
