Hey everyone. I was wondering if there has been any mention of wether the European servers will be split from the American servers ala WoW, or would be all combined? Also, how many are you from Europe or America?
The answer i got when i asked this question was that it wasn't decided yet...
I sure hope they dont split it in a way where Europeans cant play with US players, That's the reason why i never bought WoW, i know too many people all over the world and if i play a game i want to be able to play with them all :P ... Eventually some friends from Canada actually sent me an american version of WoW so i wouldnt have an excuse not to play with them :P
Then they grew tired of it before i did, go figure

I'd like the europeans and americans to be on one large server. Mainly cause the americans would add alot more english speaking gamers, and be more likely to prevent forreign takeovers off the servers.
I hope they will let us mix. Its alot more fun that way, because the servers will be more populated. Also, we get to play with people of different cultures etc so thats always fun too.
I hope that there will be EU/US servers and Global servers. So the players with dial-up connection can go play to server which doesnt have way too high ping to them, player from europe with dial-up can go to EU server and visa versa. There wont be so many laggerz in global servers then, I hope. In our regiment, theres lads from EU and US.. it would be very sad if they will split servers. In that case I will buy US copy of WAR, but then there will be problems with timezones.. when I play, no-one is online.
So.. I really hope Mythic wont split servers. Or if do, hopefully they make few global servers.
I don't think EU/US groups playing on the same server has worked for many MMOs in the past, because of the time difference, particularly in EQ and DAOC. I think it'd really suck to have your capital constantly ransacked in WAR by the big Euro guild that begins its reign of terror at 3am every night.

Very vaild point, say your US and play on a low populater US server, but come 3am its a high Euro server, any work you and your friends have put in during the day is wiped by those logging on at an unconftable time for you and pushing you 3 steps back,

Sadly thats exactly what was happening in Shadowbane. They had to go to Windows of Opportunity on servers for mine fights and sieges. It worked ok by basically bottlenecking all the fights on a particular server into a few timezones.
Just a couple points from an old SB player, prolly worth .013 cents
I'm for separating them for the reasons already brought up. I'm sure people lose enough sleep as it is with games without an urge to protect your homeland at three in the morning. I think a Guild Wars-like region selection (starts off as where your game is sold, and if you want to change you can do so only about 2-3 times in your account's lifetime) would be prudent.
I want people to be able to play with their friends no matter where they are, but as soon as some people get together to find out when a server in another region is at it's weakest (i.e. when everyone in that region is asleep) to attack it for easy wins...that's when there's a problem.
I also think a global server or two would be a good idea, but I'm not the one calling the shots ;p
In my experiance with DAoC (wich admittedly dates a few years back) there'll always be people crazy enough to set their clocks to 4am if it increases their chance at capturing a relic or - in the case of WAR - sacking an enemy town. If servers for US and EU are shared at least there'd be someone there to defend, as servers would be busy pretty much around the clock. Or maybe only my server was that way..
I suspect they'll take a similar approach as wow, but I hope they're not as strict.
I find it funny that people seem to be looking at this as if having a joint EU/US server would mean that the sides would be unevenly matched because of time difference, it's not like all US players are gonna be orcs and all euros are gonna play dwarves.
The whole timezone issue it complete and utter bullshit, there will always be people who play at different times, you have the daytime players, the afterwork/school players, the evening players and even the nighttime players and the early in the morning players... Simply put, the ballance would shift many times during a day as people log on/off, and it would have little or nothing to do with timezones.
What it would mean though is that there would never be lack of opponents to fight on the battlefields, no downtime for the battles and lots of action all day long since there will always be people on. I see that possibility as a really good thing

We can put them on the server with the Germans.. they'll have a lot to talk about.

I totaly agree, but the diffrent time zones can be a problem if there is a low player cap on the server.
I don't think that is true, people playing if different parts of the world just means that there is always someone playing 24/7.
I don't care how they split the servers as long as we get roleplay servers!

I agree, that way it will be the most fun, and you will have an around the clock adventure. Always ppl around to quest / RvR or whatever with
I was playing DAOC on Merlin Server from the start, when daoc wasn't in store in europe, and that's the best MMO experience i ever had.
Always someone to play with whatever hour you come back home. US, EU and asian guild splited on both 3 realm, you never had a Hibernia timezone, an albion timezone or a midgard timezone...
In my guild, we had German, US, French, Canadian, Italian etc and it was really great... And most German was speaking English better then Canadian and even US players.
I really think World Servers is the best solution.. and with a 10k+ cap server it would be great (i love the World Unique server in EVE).
Only says there will be Euro/US servers, not if they will force split the playerbase on those servers (IE US players wont be able to play on Euro servers and vice versa).. Altho i'm not keeping my hopes up, it does look like that's what they're going to do.
Too bad, at least to me that is a major issue

Well, with europe being managed by a separate company that pretty much nails no playing on both US and EU servers without extra accounts, a really bad move that will leave communities from DAOC and other games looking for another new game which they can play together.

I'd say have Euro and American servers, and players can switch between them at will.
The only problem I see with mixing them is, that (from my experience) most Americans are vastly xenophobic.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
What sort of talk is that? I don't think you're from around here...
Oh wait, I'm Canadian. I guess after winning in a RvR fight I apologize. Think you'd be better off with xenophobic.
