I don't think I'll personally be using it, I'm very happy with my Black Mage... If I have to stand there with a cast time, I'd rather it end in an explosion.
But it looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun as a semi-support class!
Just when you think this shit can't get weirder....
You shouldn't be that surprised. Pictomancer is a recurring job in the Final Fantasy series. So to see it here isn't really weird, rather expected sooner or later.

Well I wouldn't know that....I am not into this FF stuff because it's so weird. A little critical thinking would have probably clued you in.

Uninformed opinion? How is me thinking something is weird uninformed? The concept of something fighting with art is strange as fuck to me, that is simply an opinion. What information do you think I lack that would change that? Please explain....

So, pulling out a book and reading a spell to canalize your magicks in order to create stuff out of thin air (including meteors) or give life to inanimate objects is okay, but someone doing the same thing with paintings is strange or weird? Despite some of the previously mentioned inanimate objects being paintings themselves?
You even have bards in D&D casting via singing and dancing; heck, they can also kill someone with insults (Vicious Mockery). Yet somehow using another form of art to cast is a no-no, or out of place, in a fantasy game. I guess someone should also tell some wizzards to stop drawing transmutation circles.
Don't get me wrong, having an opinion is fine. But I fail to see the logic behind finding this weird, but not the rest of the magic stuff, despite the principle being literally the same. However, maybe you think that way about all magic, who knows. Anyway, this reply is also directed to everyone else that said similar things.
By the way, pictomancer has existed for 30 years. It's not something that they just decided to create (or copy from another game). Moreover, many players were asking for it, among other FF jobs (like the also upcoming Beastmaster).
Pictomancer may be a unique mage class to try. I'll try and see how I like it. I like the idea, in principle, but let's see how it plays before bashing it.

Indians walk around a new house with a coconut on their head to bless it. They've been doing that for thousands of years. Some Christians play with rattlesnakes in church thinking God will protect them from the venom, age-old tradition. I find these things weird too. It's an opinion on things I think are strange, I don't need to justify it.
Now if I was saying this should not exist I could see the pushback because it's not my place to decide that for others. I am not saying you should not play FFXIV. You guys are acting as though this is your first day on the internet.

You're the one apparently being unable to cope with other people confronting your opinion with their own. You voiced it on the Internet for anyone to see, so obviously others will talk about it. As I said, I respect your opinion, but that doesn't mean that I can't discuss it. Especially considering how you worded some parts.
Now, in regards to what you just said there, there's a slight difference. Having a wide variety of ways to cast magic is pretty common since the very genre's inception. When something is a common trope in the genre, it stops being strange or weird other than to uninformed people. Just like doing those things that you wrote in your examples aren't weird for Indians and Christians, respectively, or for people that know the cultures and traditions, yet can be seen as such by some outsiders.

This looks just as silly as a similar Aion class.
