With how well received the Final Fantasy VII remake has been so far, it's no surprise that Square Enix has been receiving feedback from fans asking for Final Fantasy VI, one of the most beloved entries in the series, to receive the same treatment.

I have absolutely no desire to see FFVI remade as an action game, which is probably what they would want to do. I have hated every one of the action-game remakes of older FF games.

A huge part of the reason I liked the Final Fantasy series in the first place was because it was turn-based. It surely would NOT take 20 years to remake FFVI correctly, as a turn-based game.

I don't buy it. You have an engine. You have a stellar combat system. What about VI is so much greater in scope than VII.

That number is just something they're throwing out to say "we don't want to do it". Reminds me of a time I asked a software vendor what it would take to change over how they were handling primary keys from what they were doing to something more industry standard and they quoted me 2000 man years. I mean really? I'm pretty sure they could rebuild their whole platform from File->New Project in less time than that. They just didn't want to entertain doing it. Neither do these guys.

Doubt if they would increase their headcount to do this. Similar to XVI it would mean taking people off other projects, particularly XIV which is preparing for 7.0 together with the usual high activity levels following the launch. So, no is good news in that respect.

Sounds like a lame excuse. 20 years? Try 5 if you put any effort into it. Even then I don't understand why it takes so dam long. Are you coding in assembly language? Have to engineer a new graphics engine? I can imagine that taking a few years to perfect. It's one thing to state you have no interest in doing something; another when you make lame excuses.

When I think about it, the total development time of the FULL FFVII remake is about 10 years, isn't it? Assuming it's a trilogy, that is. I guess FFVI has twice as many characters but I'm not sure how much longer the story is (though IIRC FFVI's story is at least somewhat longer and with more locations, towns, and dungeons)

FFVII remake allows one to play it as turn based right? So wouldn't they do the same for FFVI since that is what the game was originally like FFVII.
