Man... this is mmorpg.com and you call a game that struggles to handle even just 100 people on a single server an mmo. Elite is not and has never been an mmo.

Normally I too like to call out the misused "MMO" tag but I hate to say you might be a little off base here. Played the game a lot with Mobious which has north of 30k players in the wing. Never had issues playing with large groups in Elite....so I am not sure why you think it's not an mmo.
Maybe I'll poke my nose back into this one. Every time I do it seems like it hasn't evolved past its space trucker simulator roots. That is while they've added a bunch of different activities, the primary grind is for cash and that's most efficiently done via space trucking. Cool for a few hours but quickly becomes boring. I just need more action. I also don't play farming simulator games, although plenty of people love those.
This game was worth it just to try out VR. Unfortunately, when they didn't extend VR to ground fighting, I left.
I feel like with VR ground fights and expansion on the world outside your ship this game could easily fill the niche that Star Citizen is going to fill. As another poster said, it is a space trucking game and I guess they don't want to move beyond that?

I think the problem with this is that Elite Dangerous in VR is like a space flight sim. I would have problems getting in and out of my sim rig every time I stood up in the game. Plus, body movement is much more involved than sitting in a cockpit.
