Hell naw. They scared of putting it on steam cuz it'll get review bombed. I'll wait a few weeks or months after launch and see if the game is worth a damn. If it can't maintain a solid player base after a few months then it's not worth it to begin with.

Companies should charge whatever they feel the market will bear. Nothing wrong with that, at least as far as entertainment products go.

That said, I think it's a really bad look to brag so about their own product. I'm pretty much of the opinion if someone has to constantly remind others how great they are at something, they're not that great.

If their game doesn't sell at $70, then that's on them and their tonedeaf attitude. If it does sell well, then a noisy bunch of trolls on the internet won't matter, so why did they decide to engage in social conflict as a business? Dumb move imo.

I had been looking forward to this game as Black Flag was my favourite in the series. However, I couldn't even get into the game to play the open beta. The settings all worked, the benchmark tests all worked fine and showed I should be able to play but when I tried to launch, everything seemed to be working as normal and then the screen just went black. I tried it each day but gave up in the end. I certainly won't be risking any money on it, even if it ends up on sale later for $20.

Yeah well, definitely waiting on reviews for this one. Gut tells me this is going to bomb pretty hard as Ubisoft doesn't have a fantastic reputation at the moment, so people are already hesitant. If it's less than amazing then people will just say they figured it would be trash and not bother. It's going to need very positive reviews very quickly to overcome people's negative views of Ubisoft.

From what I understand (which may well be wrong), Ubisoft had a pretty tight contract with the Singapore government. They had to release the game, otherwise they would get in a lot of trouble for the subsidies they were given.

So, the bragging, to me, just looks like Ubisoft covering their arse. Trying to hype the game and make it look like they believe in it in order to satisfy the Singaporean govt.

For a AAAA game it looks like it plays like crap and looks sad tbh.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

After making a huge mistake giving diablo 4 like 90$ and starfield like 60$ I am passing up on this game, I urge people to wait for reviews...I predict this game will flop pretty hard.

I stopped having confidence in Ubisoft years ago. I think a game with this theme would be popular, & I'm sure I'm a minority, but knowing Ubisoft is involved sort of makes me less interested in it.

the majority of inflation is corporate greed, but this is a game forum and not the place to debate on the subject

look ....im enjoying the game for what it is..sid meirs pirates in 3D...BUT someone has to shut this idiot up...its not worth 70 bucks..not even 60
  • LuidenLuiden Member RarePosts: 337
After paying 70 dollars for that steaming pile of a game Diablo 4, I will never ever pay 70 again.  The game will need to be released for 3 months with near 100% amazing reviews before I pay that amount again.  These greedy ass game companies can go F themselves.

You might take a look at Pirates of the Burning Sea to get the Sid Meier's Pirates game feel.

As usual, I'll wait 6 months after the release to look at reviews and make a decision. For $70, it better be spectacular.

Uh, literally no one says that. China deals with inflation. Every nation deals with inflation. Some of the worst hyperinflation in recorded history is from North Korea, a socialist state. Maybe do some research before spewing socialist propaganda on a gaming forum.

Apparently they don't teach economic and monetary theory in schools much these days hence their totally incorrect assessment blaming Capitalism and of all people, investors.

Back in topic, this isn't the first new game to sell for this price point is it?

I thought I read about some others at $69.99 or have they not released yet?

I tried for a bit, and trust me you are not missing anything, felt as old as when it was supposed to release.. If this is a AAAA god help us all. Indie developers put up just as good games with a tiny fraction of the budget. But I Guess it was just a Demo - the release will be totally finished, polished and different experience...

Hmmm, i remember reading that this was a 'troubled project'.

Also i kind of checked out mentally as soon as i read 'Quadruple-A'; because that is some bat-shit-crazy business language right there.

Either way, i don't know how much life a game like this would even have; as it has to compete with the likes of 'Sea of Thieves' - and frankly, Ubisoft titles do not exactly have the best lives in online spaces; some do 'okay-ish for a time, but they always seem to have rather short honeymoon periods, at least from my personal experience with online modes in Ubisoft games.

Apparently this is the new normal after a very long time at $60.

    As this article summarizes,

"Upping price tags to $70, van Dreunen said, is “largely, I’d say, a move by platforms and publishers to capture more market value.”

In other words, companies can charge $70 now because they know people will pay it."

Well this is called B2P just mentioning that as not going F2P is hardly a first. They may well add on many live service elements, hard to see a multiplayer game out there with none these days. They need to charge what they think the game is worth and I will be glad if it is worth that much, as we have had a lot of high price games which do not seem to have the sustainability they should do.

The open beta was kinda janky, which I was fine with until I looked up the release date of... a FEW DAYS FROM NOW? Had a laugh, uninstalled and got on with my weekend.
