Shills Spreading Misinformation about Gods & Heroes?

It seems that some people either have a misguided belief that Gods & Heroes is a direct competitor against their pet MMO and are spreading false information OR other company's shills are doing it.  In any case, it doesn't serve the readership of MMORPG.com when so much misinformation can be read on their forums.

1.  Instancing - There will be a number of instances in Gods & Heroes, but the game is not "instanced" the way that Guild Wars is instanced.  Instead, it sparingly  uses instances the same way that WoW uses them. . .  basically to create content that has a cap on the number of players who can access it all at once so that it can't be zerged, and to create bosses that can't be constantly camped by a single team that "farms" the boss for uber loot.

2.  SOE Platform Publishing -  This is a MUCH different deal than the one that Sigil made for their upcoming game Vanguard.  With Gods & Heroes, SOE will be printing and distributing the games to retailers as well as doing some marketing (box art, standies, etc.).   That's ABSOLUTELY IT.

Gods & Heroes will NOT be an SOE station game.  Gods & Heroes will have it's OWN billing service, customer support service, and game servers.  It will NOT be an SOE game.  Perpetual Entertainment will retain 100% complete creative control.

Basically, setting up contracts with game and box printers is costly, and setting up deals with distributors and retailers is both costly and time-consuming.  Gods & Heroes is getting these services done by SOE because they already have these connections and can provide them at a premium cost.  Additionally, this works out for SOE because they realize that they need to have their name associated with some decent products to improve their horrible brand recognition.

So it's a Guild Wars clone run by SOE then?
  • dinkdink Member Posts: 438

rdpappy - Exactly wrong, as I'm sure you knew.  :)

Leonius - Thanks for the back-up.  I think rdpappy was joking, but there definitely was a TON of misinformation being spread on these boards.

I figured he was joking too (at least I hope he was), but still it bothers me that people keep doing that because for one, it's often hard to tell if someone is joking on a forum, secondly I didn't think it was funny joke or not, and thirdly this is how misinformation keeps spreading in spite of the best efforts of the people that actually follow and WORK on the game that post here.

While I certainly hope this isn't true, I suppose it's a possiblitly. Pretty sad if people feel the urge to spread wrong info on purpose though.

I just want to say a quick "Thanks" to all those that have been trying to get the correct information out there, and being sure to correct those that may have a misinterpreted view of the game and/or Sony's involement. I know the dev team appreciates it, and so do we at Stratics! Keep it up!

That's not funny.  I don't understand why people continue to write stuff like this.

It's too bad for this site that it seems like the majority of the posters here are dumb.  I hope everyone ignores this quote and just reads the OP.

So you registered just so you could call most of us dumb? Why are you here, then? As for the OP, very well said
  • LeoniusLeonius Member Posts: 6

/sigh.  No I didn't register to call anyone dumb, in fact I didn't say anyone was dumb, I said they SEEM dumb because despite the best efforts of the people from the GnH community site and Deodatus who actually works for PE and works on the game, people still come up with posts like rdrpappy whether they're joking or not.  Just look at the last post on the OMG GnH is instanced thread before it was locked.  I can't remember seeing a post in there after Deodatus went in and said that it will be instanced only when deemed absolutey neccessary, that someone else responded with something like "Oh so it isn't 100% instanced, guess I was wrong maybe I'll give this game a shot."  It just became a thread about who likes/dislikes instancing.

It's just sad that this site has so many people that don't seem to get it, even after the correct information about this game has been posted.  That's why I said that the majority of people here seem dumb.  You on the other hand are obviously not dumb because you read what the OP had to say and didn't reply with something smartassed.  I'm not trying to insult anyone here I just want people to read the boards and come away with correct information so they can make a decision about the game based on that.

    *applauds OP*

Just reading some of the hype comments proves just how much misinformation is out there. One of 'em even says 1200 quests, and in all my research and reading of this game has there ever been a number stated about quests. Thanks again for trying to undo the misinformation machine.

    Understood and appreciated, Leonius. Cheers!

I don't think mis-information at this stage will have that much of an impact on the amount of people to play this game. If it comes out as solid as I believe it will, then by late Beta, especially Post NDA, the game will have the following it needs to take off on release. After that the game will speak for itself.

In other words, chill out fellas.

Back in the day that was GnHs big push on their site, over 1200 Quests!!  That number may somewhere still be around there I'm not sure...

I don't think anyone is heated about this.  No one is flaming anyone. . .  unless you count company shills or people too stupid to research statements before posting rumors.  In either case, both groups would be hated at ANY time.

If you were offended then you are probably in the dumb crowd......in that case it's simply a matter of calling apples apples.

Otherwise loose the Liberalism, or get a shrink.

What is this in reply to?

I wonder if maybe someone made a random flame bot that just spouts expletives according to a script or something. . .  so incoherent.

The best thing that the devs could do, is an open beta for like 1 week when the game is ready.
If the game is really good (who knows maybe it's really great, or it isn't) then they have nothing to fear and only to gain.

I hope the best for the game and I'm glad that there are people like the op to clear things up.

Sigil has complete control over VSOH development as well. SOE is just publishing Vanguard.  Well done OP, id hate to see a game go down becuase of flames like instancing and SOE deals (VSOH gets plenty of the latter ones too unfortunately)

Jimmyman99 - I'm hoping that Vanguard will be good, but I wasn't impressed with it at E3.  In any case, their deal is much more invasive than the one that Perpetual has with SoE.  Perpetual's deal does NOT include SOE maintaining the game servers, billing service, or customer service.  I read up on this when the story about Sigil getting into bed with SOE first came up, but haven't been following the game as closely.  Can Sigil say that their only association with SOE is that they will print the CDs, box art, and distribute them to stores?

From an interview with Stieg by evilavatar:

There is some disinformation circulating about
Gods & Heroes' publishing agreement. What is the official word? Who
will be publishing Gods & Heroes and what is the extent of their
    involvement with the game?

SOE is co-publishing GnH through their Platform Publishing division.
SOE mainly is a marketing and distribution partner that Perpetual is
working with for GnH. Perpetual is still very much the creative power
at work on GnH, and we can only benefit from the experience SOE has in
    MMOs.

    Entire article:

    http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14006

SOE is only involved for marketing and distribution.  That is all.

You are correct. SOE will maintain game servers and some other things. Ive been playing on SOE servers since EQ1, and they are pretty good with it (unlike blizzard). I hope SOE's involvement does not go beyond maintaining servers and publishing/marketing VSOH, SOE is not very good in developing games.

Regarding E3: Ive heard from several people about rather VSOH's poor performance. I am not overly concerned at the moment becuase the game is still in its early beta (some say its still in alpha even, i dont realy know). I will have to wait to see either late beta or open beta when the game will be much more fixed, I hope.

So it won't be part of SoE's station access card package?  Game looks great, but that's a bit of a disappointment.

    No.  It won't.

Perpetual owns all of the actual operating game portion of the game, etc.  However, they may do a bundle someday with Star Trek Online. . .   and let's face it, is there really anything in the Station package worth playing?

Now an STO and G&H package - that might be worth it.
