imageStar Citizen Devs Confirm Some Layoffs As Part Of A 'Restructuring,' Relocation Appears To Be A Factor | MMORPG.com

Yesterday we reported on the rumors that Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games had laid off key members of the team, in part due to relocation efforts. A rep from the studio confirmed the reports, stating that it was part of "restructuring."

Oh, they did get back to MMORPG.com! Although their PR reply has a lot of words, it means nothing.

Let's see if they reply regarding the exact number of people laid off.

Which end up being the expected news, they been downsizing the US game dev positions for years now while especially the UK office grown massively, as posted before:

Their answer about efficiency when people are together is something I've wondered before, 5 studios working on the same project across multiple timezones that's a fun one to manage, one office starts work hours as the other is ending them.

I'd also say the financial situation is also facing pressure, they employ... a truckload of people. It feels they did overreach on growth a bit, and income is struggling to sustain increasing costs in the order of dozens of millions per year.

Ok, I'll play......what does it mean to you if they do or don't? How does their reply mean nothing? If you are saying you got nothing from their reply, to me that screams a lack of comprehension skill on your part.

I'd also say the financial situation is also facing pressure, because I find people do not realize just how many people they employ and how much that costs and the normal scale other studios around working on a single project.

It feels they did overreach on growth, and income is struggling to sustain increasing costs on the order of dozens of millions per year.

Pretty simple, every other gaming company explicitly mentions the number/percentages of employees affected.

It took sleuthing by 3rd parties for CIG to even recognize the layoffs.

    Now you connect the dots.

It's the financials, you don't get a better picture than the actual numbers, and you can evidence certain trends, the US downsizing gamedev roles is just one of those.

It's based on that I said last year 2024 would see layoffs, especially after the turbulent aquisition, they been spending a truckload of money, and their investment on fancy new big offices on the EU kinda telling on where they want people.

You made a new account to push this low hanging fruit? What you think you'll accomplish this time?

Star Citizen haters going that extra mile to push fud, every year is the last one. :D

On the cases that happened is because there was a significant downsize to the point the company's leads do announce it to their workforce, as a way to mitigate internal concerns/panic.

If what we see here a more progressive restructuring, eliminating positions that have been or are being either moved or absorbed into another studio, even if that means less people or cheaper to have the same position elsewhere, then that's seems to be a more common situation.

It's not the first time they've done this, resulting in a studio being hit by layoffs as others grew.

I am pretty sure the recognition of the layoffs, was them initially doing the thing, the laying off. As well, when MMORPG reached out, they acknowledged them. What more do they need to do? What dots are we supposed to connect? BTW you didn't answer my questions. Can you do so before not answering these, please.

    I remember you ...

..I remember you from three thousand years ago, tell us all how in just few shy years, SC will be released.

    I believe that was before 2020. Maybe 2018 or fine..2019. That's .. around 5 years ago.

And...they have yet to release anything but Alpha 3.whatever.

If by few shy years you meant like .. few shy ...light years, then ok, no worries. They still have 1 light year left..and a bit!

Have fun ( I believe this was your signature? :D )

Also SC is going for the lifetime achievement award development-wise, so that's what we sign up for!

The fact that they can't afford to just have studios everywhere isn't shocking.  They've tried throwing money and bodies at the development of the game.  Now they have to be smarter.

Long term sceptic here.  Like I said at the beginning, 'Not going to be as promised, not going to be on time'.

And the every year rubric includes a lot of 'This year SC  will be great/released/proven/fixed/mvp/etc'.

Anyone could go look up your previous pronouncements, but that's a lot of extra work.  Erillion had the right idea early, 'Done, when it's done.'  Ten years ago, no supporters were going '2025!' though.

LMAO, call it what you want.....but you've def been here being all skeptical for a long time. Pssst, BTW it took all of 4 mins to find some of your cave scratching's spanning back to 2020. That's a lot of skepticism, for something one could only guess you're not supporting, don't plan on playing...... you ok?
