Join Everquest's In-Person Fippy Fest For $1499 | MMORPG.com
Want to immerse yourself in the world and history of the 25-year-old legendary MMORPG EverQuest with other fans, in-person in California? That'll be $1,499.
FFXIV's FanFest isn't even close to that much and offers waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more.
This feels like a FyreFest scheme but without the exaggerated and imaginary promotional video.
But at least you get a T-SHIRT
I'm going to call it right now, this is just going to be a day of people sitting at cheap tables droneing on about Everquest's history and a bunch of cheap plastic chairs for the ticket-buyers to sit in, no food, no drinks, just fat guys talking.

Not shocked to see one of the top 3 selling MMORPGs is taking strays in a post entirely unrelated about it.
But yeah, the Vegas one kinda sucked. Americans don't queue as a hobby like Japan does.
Yeah i can definitely see the parallels in levels of enjoyment and quality with each of the 3 FanFest's- it seems like the EU and Japan one's get the most attention, while the NA one seems hit-or-miss; at least from what i've seen in past streams of the NA events.
But in terms of price, that's something that i can only leave to my imagination- but the promotional material and what i've seen in live videos seems to match up usually; though i can only speculate how event-goers feel...... but $1500 is so much money; it's hard for me to imagine a ticket to a fan festival for a video game being even remotely justifiable unless the price is padded like crazy with a shit-ton of physical goodies and VIP-related stuff.
And even then that still doesn't come off as a justifiable price tag. I'm not a avid convention goer so it would be interesting to get some insight from those that go to fan conventions often to see what people are actually willing to spend on a ticket to a large event.

Some fun points of comparison I have as a relatively broke catgirl:
I got into FanFest for free as press this year, but everyone who bought a ticket got a "goodie bag" that, on its own, I'd consider to be $90-100: sling bag, pin, card pack, squishy toy, magnet, pen. There were also two major concerts that would be priced at least $40 a ticket. Even without the panels and activities, it was nearly worth it on those factors alone.
I'm an avid theme park and convention congoer, both since around 2007. This January I spent $125 to go to MAGFest (with a refund since I ran a panel) and would consider that "worth it," as it's 4 days, with 3 of them mostly packed with lively activities and a 24/7 arcade. I think the most I've ever spent on an "experience" was about $375 + $80 separate ticket price + $40 tip (probably above standard) to go to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights with a semi-private VIP group and have a tour guide escort our group to the fronts of the lines of all 10 haunted houses, plus to VIP show seating, with free water bottles, exclusive seating areas, snacks and an exclusive pin and lanyard, and I also considered that well worth it. I don't do vacations, so MAGFest is usually my one trip of the year and the Universal thing was one-off but I'd gladly do it again with some savings.
Also I've been into small local music events lately and I included those specifically just as a point of comparison since those are high-profile "bougie" music events. Not a Coachella person so much as EDC. I'd probably pay as much as listed to be that tier of VIP considering the sheer size of the event and the crowds I'd be fighting in otherwise, but I absolutely don't have that kind of money.

It's still a better use of money than a Star Citizen pre-alpha ship.
