I have been doing lots of research on my own and I now I want some advice. I will be starting an mmorpg and I wan to now which one to pick. My priorities are :
1. storyline/RP
2. good, mature community
3. first person view 3d (graphics arent that important to me other than that, but I have to have first person view)
4. QUESTS- I get really bored hunting all the time, I want a game where you have interesting and cool quests that propel your character along a storyline, not just "that monster took my thing! kill it and get my thing back and I will give you gold and experience points!"
5. good support and dynamic storyline with GM run events
6. Plenty of people
7. Ability to solo...I don't mind parties, but I don't want to HAVE to.
These are what is important to me, not in any particular order. I don't really care about PVP (I can take it or leave it), I do not want isometric action, and if this helps here is my bartle scores:
Your type is: EAS. 8% of respondents so far fall into that type.
Explorer 80%
Achiever 53%
Socializer 46%
Killer 20%
So far I have been considering EQ, AC1 or AC2, DAoC, or FFXI. I don't want small companies who do not have their shit together and can't keep the server up, etc. I want a fantasy setting.
Thnx in advance for your help.

do you mean getting one of these companys to make a game for you?
No I mean I don't want to play an mmorpg put out by some small independent company who can't even code their own website properly or keep their servers up, yet still think it's all right to charge the same price as the real games. (Like Ragnarok Online, etc).
I want people who literally have people at work 24/7 to keep servers up, etc. You do not gett hat with the small indie companies.
oh you mean playing a game? i still thought you mean creating your own mmorpg lol.
well for games that you want to play that will last a few months..
scratch off ac2 and ffxi forsure ive been playing mmorpgs for almost 6 years. and these 2 didnt hold me for more then a month.
Everquest is a solid choice of a game.. no pvp but as far as differnt looking charectors armor twinking. and economy this is a pretty solid choice of game.. if not everquest i recommend DAOC then AC/ffxi. but ive only lasted a month at AC1 and went back twice.
Recommend this order.
#1 Everquest: large player base, lots of char customization. quests and overall probably best mmorpg out there right now. you can solo somewhat in this game with few differnt chars.
#2 DAOC: im currently playing daoc yet again.. ive left and came back many times... but right now its in bad shape.. there is barely any new players, you need 3 expantions to compete with the high level rvr ( pvp ) you can solo fine in this game with many chars.
#3 AC/FFXI: both will not hold you long, i would say FFXI is better because its new and there is no bugs, but onse you hit level 30 you will want to cancel your account because finding a grup to play with takes over 2-3 hours. there is 0 soloability in this game.
FFXI has a odd billing system as well, i recommend staying away from them if you signup on january 29th, and your trial ends on febuary 29th you will be billed for the month of febuary and then month of march because even if you play 1 day in that mont they charge you.. this is what happened to me.
everquest or daoc are really my only choices right now.. maby anarchy online even.
Well i played about 3 months ago, when the new server came up it might be that way now but Stromm Server was brand new server so grouping was easy and there wasnt to many high levels. that might have changed by now though, but after level 20-30 its alot easier to find groups. there is always still people looking for group they may be twinked out but they will still group atleast thats how it was when i was playing..
I did try out one of the old servers and it was pretty dead in the newbie areas id recommend stromm if you do try out EQ.
I level my frog shaman from lvl 1- 55 if your healer or shaman enchanter or useful class you will never be turned down for groups. To bad they dont offer free 1 week trial or something you could check it out.
Im hoping that WOW UOx or Eq2 will be something new im kind of bored with all the current mmorpgs.
Only problem with everquest is they have about 5 or more expantions now too so if you do buy it buy the game with the 3 expantions should be cheap now days.
Daoc is a pretty good game if you like it more fast paced but there is to many imbalancing issues and onse you start your char by the time you hit level 50 he will be nerfed or changed around so much you will be frustrated. like my level 50 shadowblade is completely useless now because they nerfed the left axe ability. Sb was the hardest char in the game to level too. but im still having fun playing the game. but really everyone looks the same and the community is more uber talk phat lewts dude type of game.
Try AC2. It has 15 day free trial.
It has nice graphics (you can switch 1st or 3rd person view), plenty quests, mature community (at least on Dawnsong), balanced classes, monthly patches with new content....

I played ac2 when it was in beta and then tried there free trial about 3 months after that but that game is empty. you can hit max level in no time, skill trees werent finished atleast when i played. everyone looks EXACTLY the same. i dont think armor even changed colour lol. all armor/wepons and items look exactly the same from level 1- 50. The quests were good, The ingame map is nice. Graphics were nice. There is NO NPCS. There is NO END GAME. NO NPC was really boring the citys were just plopped down in the middle of the land and looked like skins on the buildings you cant even enter them. no where to sell your items. iether craft them or throw them away. money was nealy pointless.
The game may have changed but from what i remember it wasnt worth a monthly fee yet but i havent checked that game out in atleast 6 months.
The game has changed a lot in last couple of months. Level cap has been raised from 50 to 150 and after 4 months of the new cap the most hardcore players only got to lvl 59 (and they were 50 when the cap was raised). So there is no fear to hit max lvl any time soon.
There are plenty NPCs and the new crafting system will be implemented in next 2 months. Thee are also plenty of weapons and armor types which look very differently and you can also dye your each piece of your armor in 10 different colors. All skill trees are finished now and classes are nicely balanced.

I am also an EAS player, a little higher on the Achiever than Killer...so PvP isn't important to me at all.
EverQuest is a terrible choice for a player that wishes to solo. You certainly can solo if you choose 1 or 2 of 15 classes, but the game forces you to group to participate in 90% of the content. EverQuest is, however, the most robust game for static content you will find on the market. It is also an extremely well vetted game, in which you will find tons and tons of things to do, provided you have a partner (or three) to do them with. EverQuest also has high-end raiding content like no other game on the market...say goodbye to the rest of your life if you engage in this. EverQuest is, however, the current gold standard of MMOG.
I am playing Horizons right now, and loving it a great deal as an EAS player. I would, however, recommend waiting for a couple more months *if* you demand having a game with more content and less bugs. It is, after all, a game only one month out of release. It's very stable, but like any MMOG out of release it's still going through afterbirth pains. I believe this game meets all of your criteria handily. Details available if you want them...just ask.
Anarchy Online is also a solid choice, but it's not fantasy. It's sci-fi, but even then it's a bit of a sci-fi/fantasy pseudo blend. This game definitely has quests galore, is soloable or groupable, tons of content, downloadable with 7 day trial. But it's not fantasy...so consume at your own risk.
I won't bother to comment on AC1 or AC2, DAoC, or FFXI as I've not really engaged them (some I've played, just not enough to say I know much about them).
Only a couple classes can effectively solo unless you have great gear. Starting out in EQ is slow and hard for the new person if you dont have help. (since most peoples characters are matured and their alts are twinked).
Something to take in to account when considering EQ.

Yah, that's what I had heard about EQ, along with no one being in any of the starting zones, everyone being in the new expansion zones. I have a friend that plays pretty hardcore though, and I could have help from him starting.
What else? I heard AC2, but then no one can tell me how many people play it (which seems to be a pretty common thing) and EQ, what else?
