I had a blast in Vanguard. As usual, I waited a year or more after it released before I tried it. I had a top end machine with an SSD and put Vanguard on that. I had almost no lag issues, the game played very well.
I loved the classes and the crafting. Diplomacy was cool. If they could release that again, I'd play in a heartbeat.

The only weirdly over the top positive comment that's new and posted 1 time. Either some troll or the devs doing an awful job at trying to make their post look legit.
Anyways, this was one of the few mmos I was looking forward to for years and it seems like they just completely lost focus. I can hardly tell if at this point the game will be basically a scam or just a total let down. It really is just a shame.
Making a game seems secondary to them, and that is a big part of why this project lost its way when it lost its figurehead. I am sure there are some very talented people working very hard on it, but they are so fixated on the commercial elements and chasing the latest fads that they lost sight of the fact they were supposed to be making a game for an audience that doesnt want the newest fads.
I like many others were cautious and over time got into the idea of what was originally sold as the vision for this game.
What its become is none of those things.
Season passes, PvPvE based gameplay, Low Poly Forknife / WoW / Runescape graphics.
The more it drifts away from what it was meant to be the less invested the people who got onboard originally will be, and the more it just becomes another mediocre entry into an overpopulated pool that wont attract new people to replace the disenfranchised.
Game already has eveything Embers Adrift got and more.
I have been playing for 4 days about 8 hours a day.
Lovin the gameplay, the combat, questing, the crafting, the grouping, the harvesting/mining/woodcutting, the music, the ambiance and this new art is not so bad tbh. A
There is already tons fo quest, some easy and some hard. Some quests need a group for a small bandit camp.
Time fly when you play and I finally got a game that can make me forget about this ugly real world.
I was expecting much less and I am very surprised on what they did. This game is quality.
I am 42 and I started gaming at 14-15 with EQ, AoC, DaoC, Final online, etc.
2004-2005 were the last good mmo's imo with EQ2 and WoW which are not what they used to be at all anymore. Pantheon might be the next one after 20 years.

I recall too that guy really disliked Dave Georgeson. From what he recounted the guy sounds like a dick. I think he's with Playable Worlds now. All these assholes always land on their feet.
Give it a try and youll def. find that even in pre alpha state, it cant be a scam. I bought my pledge like 9 years ago but agreed if i'd heard about this game 2-3 yearsago I would have not then. youll be suprised. I did expect much less. Nothing feels like Alpha really. More like a Beta.
Pantheon does feel like Vanguard a lot for the few hours I played it and I can remeber.
Then we are playing an entirely different game... which I uninstalled yesterday. It really feels like it needs 2-3 more years in development before release. One race and even though I chose a melee character, I repeatedly died to a simple grass snake just outside the tomb (or whatever) I spawned in. The combat was in no way engaging... a single power (with a 5 second cooldown) and then waiting for auto-attack to hit the snake every so often.

If not (most people), it means nothing for at least 5 more years or something.
I never understood why these projects gate their testing and core design feedback by wealth. Rich people pay to win at games. It's like "do you believe in us enough to drop a paycheck on us?" ...No, of course not. Are you crazy? A full priced AAA game is already a lot. History has shown that this is business model for this project's scale is doomed to fail.
That or they clearly don't want people's help or feedback, they just want a couple of sugar (grand) daddies.
