In a very not-so-shocking turn of events, the Automatons make a hectic return merely two days after being "defeated" in Helldivers 2.

There's no way to win the war/game, no end game either unless you consider harder difficulties. There's no point to all your effort, and the progress you attain will not matter.

That's basically gaas/mmos in a nutshell to me. There isn't a point to the effort and "progression" is a watered down never ending go nowhere treadmill. I guess the point of them is less about the game quality itself and more about having a good time with other people in a game. Oh, and recurring revenue; always recurring revenue. Lots and lots of revenue and ways to spend money regularly.

That isn't really what I want to do with gaming anymore, but I do get the appeal and miss a couple of my favorite older mmos. If I were to play a gaas looter shooter right now though, this would be the one. You can tell the team and the players are both excited and into it. That's a great sort of energy to have around a game.

So your solution to this problem would be what? You beat the automatons, you beat the bugs, everyone high fives, then they shut the game down never to be played again? Pretty sure you're not thinking your complaint all the way through.

Matter of fact I think you're just complaining to complain because that's how any online game has been designed since there were online games. Can you win COD? No. Can you win Ultima Online? No. Can you win WoW? No. Can you win EVE? No. Can you win DAoC? No. Can you win City of Heros? No. Can you win Battlefield? No. Can you win Fortnite? No. Can you win Diablo 4? No. Can you win ? No. Sure, you can win individual matches just like you can win individual matches in Helldivers, but you can't win the overall game. That would shut the game down for everyone else if you could.

If you're looking to win something, get a big fat "THE END", followed by credits then you, sir, are in the market for a single player game. Lots of those out. I'm playing through Horizon Forbidden West currently, and it's pretty awesome. When I finish that I will probably log back into Helldivers because I want that new heavy armor they just released, and totally enjoy not winning the game in the process.

End game has always had issues, I have no idea how this one is handling them but no game has ever really put them to bed.

So...MMOs? :P The entire meta-game exists so that players can drive the way content is delivered in the game.
