Herbert never really pushed the idea being addicted to spice was problematic, that's why Dune was so popular with the counterculture movement of the 60's and why today's films ignore that aspect.

If by not being problematic you mean turning into a human fish mutant then, Yeah, no problematic side effects.

It was not just the spice that did that, but I think you know that already. :)

Eh, it's a video game. "Addiction" is going to amount to some annoying debuff that lasts a few minutes at most and then goes away. It's not like your character is going to lose their job and family then have to spend 6 months in a medically supervised rehab facility to get over spice addiction. The choice will come down to if the temporary buffs are worth the temporary debuffs. There's not going to be some big moral quandary at play.

Not to my memory, but then it has been many years since I read the books, the Fremen live all their lives with it to no harm I can remember. But if I am wrong my mistake has got a second post out of someone who joined about the same time as me, so that's a victory!

Welcome back to the forums! :)

Gurney Halleck does talk about it a little in Children of Dune.

That when you become addicted to Melange you can never go without or you will die.

I did not know that, funnily enough I am re-reading the books a third time, the last time was 20 to 25 years ago so my knowledge after Messiah which I am still on is sketchy.
