It makes sense. The game has been struggling to retain an audience for a very long time. I love the game and went back quite often but most players would just come back for the land rush on a new server. It wasn't very fun getting a guild together, building a community, just to log in a week later and everyone is gone again. They could have had a huge audience if they took the actual game from the Alpha and didn't add pay to win instantly after launch. Unchained was a great chance to bring people back, and it did for a while but then they added in battlepasses and weird crap to that as well.

..and I was so hyped about this game ..... until they started to introduce cars and bikini and all kind of stuff like this in beta back in the days. I was like .. wtf ?!

And then the whole PvP extravaganza and the land and stuff, only to find out that whoever has the biggest wallet, wins.

Meh, so much potential wasted. Could of been the next Lineage (2)..

this game would be the biggest MMO in the world right now if micro-transactions didn't ruin it

I strongly suspect it that’s not true. All the large successful MMORPG’s have micro transactions. They’re not closing any time soon.

Come on dude, are you really going to compare "all the large successful" ones to Archeage? They went full on P2W in a PvP game. It was a failure of epic proportions.

There's this weird (to me) dichotomy with Asian games.

On on one hand, in my opinion, aesthetically, artistically, they trounce western games. Trounce.

It was the main reason I went with Lineage 2 over Everquest.

    However ...

on the other hand, they are so willing to work in the most silly, inane bits and bobs. Modern dancing, track suits, stylish sunglasses, Tera had ambulances as mounts.

I just can't. And yet I see games like all the soulsborne games, or even Black Desert, which does have its version of silliness but take that away and the attention to detail is amazing.

But it's ok for them to have people dressed up in silly bear costumes fighting with a giant fork and carrot.

The issue is that with AA to be competitive in pvp you needed high end enchanted gear. This gear required lots of certain things to raise its level and you either had to grind that out or buy it off the shop AND if you didn't use a shop item to keep the item from breaking the item could break and be fully destroyed. That is to say it could still either Not go up a level or even go down a level [unless you used the no delevel cash shop item.] Either way you had to spend thousands to rank up gear to do anything in pvp. They also put some mounts behind either gamble boxes, or expensive "packs" you'd have to buy. Housing required a subscription and so the greed train kept on demanding more and more.

If that's true, that's a good point. Any time you have pvp and a cash shop that allows players to gain advantage, it just tips the balance in the wrong way.

I remember when I played this since I am not a PvP person I only went to the PvE and the slightly PvP turning areas to move around. It was great. I took like 4 days of looking for a plot for my house. I loved growing and rearing farm animals. It was cool and the game looked good. I sold my stuff in a creaky wagon that kept getting stuck. Good times.
