So what's the real motivation behind making PC players get a PSN account? Sony just wants to make inroads with PC players and send them emails or something? Weird.
They may have done this to actually keep those who purchased the game in those regions from requesting the 'allowed refund' from valves refund clause that stipulates if a game changes it's terms of service post-launch; a game refund is allowed with no limitations.
I'm not sure though if simply delisting a game people already own locks them out of the steam support process.

As someone who really loved this game I can say this is quite shocking. I mean really, Sony? I'm not even clear how requiring a PSN account benefits them. It's like some C level suit decided the game was too popular on non-Play Station platforms and was damaging the "corporate honor" or some such nonsense and they pulled this.
I don't get it. This definitely goes in the top 5 or top 3 douchiest things a game publisher has ever done.
Hopefully that delisting will come with a full refund for those that can no longer play. What a ridiculous mess.
According to this article Valve is issuing refunds to players in those regions even if they have a lot of play time. The article claims that Valve feels this is a better way to send a message to Sony rather than direct hate at a developer who didn't make the decision.

Only Sony knows, but two reasons come to my mind. Data harvesting and playing with numbers for investors.
People have dismissed data harvesting on various social media platforms citing Sony's size not needing that, but the top 3 US cellular providers (Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon) just got fined nearly a half billion dollars for collecting and selling customer data. If the data they collected was worth that fine, think how appealing it must be to Sony.

I just started to go down the rabbit hole of data mining on the mobile devices on Mac, PC, and my windows 11 gaming PC...ooof! When I surf the web on my mobile my youtube subjects change on Youtube app for my apple tv..I always ignored it lol.
I'll still play this game. I still play some games with my family on my old PS4.
