In a game that is literally all about grinding money to buy new ships.... you can now spend your real money to bypass actually playing the game.

If it keeps the servers on as opposed to them going off then it is what it is.

It just says a lot about the state of games these days.

Well put. If you can pay to bypass certain aspects of a game then maybe your game is not worth playing...

You can't sell what people won't buy. It says just as much about the state of players these days.

Didn't Frontier in the last week or so increase their in-store prices too? Both actions make me think they're following the route of money chasing instead of improving the game then earning financial proceeds that way.

Well this game has had more misses than hits during it's lifespan so far. Seems to me like they're throwing in the towel and just looking to maximize revenue as they transition to maintenance mode.

I really don't have any issues with them selling ships for 10-15. Its another source of income for the company and devs to keep the lights on, plus to work on future dlc. Its not like its on par with ScamCitizen ship prices or selling concepts for hundreds. I hope to see more ships appear in ED. At the end of the day no one is being forced to buy the ships now as they will be ingame for ingame currency in a short while.

This speaks to a MMO truism, the longer you wait after launch the more solid and polished the game will be to play but the cash shop will be distinctly worse. So have I waited to long to play, maybe, game is still bought and unplayed but I am hoping this year I will play ED.

They're just following what Star Citizen is doing. They did the on foot update and now let's just sell ships for real money because everyone is spending money on other microtransactions so why not.. only thing is they need to not TOTALLY ABANDON A PLATFORM!!

they need to go back to the now current-gen consoles and put the Odyssey update on them so people aren't left out since they're definitely not gonna leave them out of the whole buying ships for real money they need to bring the update so it's a complete game.

I haven't touched the game since they decided to abandon the consoles. That update would work with the current consoles no problem.. last gen had problems with a few games not being able to work on them but the current gen has been way better for game developers as they have way more power now.

The last get had only like 4 tf and 6 tf but now they're sitting at 10tf and 12 tf fixing to be bumped up a few more for PS5 with the rumored and leaked PS5 Pro and then Xbox will have another one later this year but I think it was just a digital Series X but they're more than capable of running the Odyssey update with the regular launch current-gen consoles.

I won't buy a ship unless we have the complete game. They are more shady than that of Ubisoft's SHADE! That's pretty bad! Especially after years, the game has been out and instead of making a new game, then putting that in, they just keep the old game going and add more ways to get your money but won't give the full game to everyone. Pretty dang bad..

I don't care as long as the new ships don't out class ones of the same kind. If so, then it is P2W and no one wants that. I hardly play the game anyway; only once in a while, so again, I don't really care.

From what I've been reading, these ships that they are selling aren't all that great. It sounds like they've been designed to get new players up to speed more quickly. There are still better ships and attachments that can only be gotten in-game.

I do agree with the general sentiment that Frontier doesn't seem to know what to do with Elite. Like, they created this really impressive background simulation and enormous universe, but then neglected to create any meaningful ways for players to interact with that simulation.

Then it's time for them to invest in an advisor or 2. Sure it may cost them a pretty penny, but if they can use that advice to improve the game and get more customers, I think in 6 months or to a year they could make up the money. That is a guess though, and it is a risk. It depends on the studio how they proceed and the choices they make. Though I doubt they'd take that risk.

They are selling early access. The credit, money, grind has all been eliminated.  People buying the ship are doing it because they don't want to wait.

Honestly, I still hate this for the game. The ships they sell now that are in the game blow. I suspect that was the plan.  Players won't get angry about selling ships that are  not very good. The problem is that the power creep will wiggle in and 18 months from now we may see great ships or new modules for ships in the store.

Its not pay to win yet. I fully expect it to be in the next 2 years. This kind of killed Elite for me.
    Scot

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Cash shops only go in one direction, ever greedier, ever more of the games "silverware" up for sale.
