That's probably the stupidest thing I've seen them do in a while. 1-50 is the only time in EQ where you can truly molo 100% worry free, without needing anything, at an acceptable pace. It really doesn't take long to get to 50. Definitely not 2500 DBC long. Maybe 500 or something max.

If we compare packs, and what level ranges translate to how many DBC, 50-85 is technically 500 DBC, and it's way longer than 1-50. Please, if you ever thought of boosting a character in EQ, put in the extra 5$. There was zero thought put into this.

The thought was probably, along with the pbaoe nerf, a visual indicator about fighting the PL squads. They aren't taking real action, just motions.
Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

I never played EQ back when it was the MMO to play. I did play FFXI though, and after going back to that game recently and experiencing it with the trust system they decided to add, I found myself VERY disappointed with what EQ has become. I'd love to see them overhaul the merc system to get players close to max level without needing to multi-box past level 50.

I suppose a level 50 boost is relatively little dev effort for those players that may want it, but when I gave EQ the old college try a few years back, getting to 50 was fairly painless.

I'm always happy to decry what EQ has become, but I've come to accept that we can't place all of the blame on the developers. In a game that was originally designed to encourage social play as one of its foundational goals, the player base increasingly shat on that philosophy and decided multiboxing was preferable to real grouping. EQ can never be what it was originally intended to be because players are antisocial and lazy and absolutely do NOT value the journey as much as the destination. A shame.

Getting to level 50 in EQ isnt a problem...it is very easy...They created a continent where you can just quest and grind thru it in a few hours to get to 50...The problem is 50-85....It gets very slow and very tedious at that point....and I never even made 86, even with the Heroic 85 characters...That is how slow 85+ is.

When I first joined EQ in late 99, I met several people...Everyone was very friendly and helpful....They all told me the same thing.....The journey was the best part of the game.
