A new job posting on Hitmarker might just be a hint at a new PvE-type game in the works at Blizzard, as the Creative Director role for an "Unannounced Game" surfaces.
Comments
EDIT:
Oh and if you go to the actual job posting, it links two related job openings for "Narrative Director" and "Senior Producer, Tech" both for an "Unannounced Game" as well. You kinda missed those rather important posting. For sure I'd say a new game is in the works, but none of these say "PvE"... just saying.
Heya - that's our mistake. For some reason, the second listing detailing the combat designer role was edited out of the piece here. This is what helps make it seem Blizzard is focusing on a PvE style game here.
Again, apologies on the mistake - that was originally supposed to be included as well and this slipped by me.
Its been many years now since they last did, right?

would it be brilliant? Maybe not but I’m not sure many of their popular games were brilliant for my tastes.
The only original games I actually liked and finished were the original Warcraft games. Though I never have the itch to play them again.
Liked the 1st two Diablo games visually, artistically, but I never finished them.
so, I think any new game they come out with would be “ok.”

D3 had something that was innovative to bring to the table. They had the combo system for xp, the follower skill system, the playable story. Where they failed was the itemization and making and designing around set metas, the scaling world, no cross class gear, quests, and the unpassable hell act 3. I would append this to say D4 is the trash of the world. The directors and designers who had a hand in that game should quit the video game industry forever. The harm you did to the entire Blizzard brand cannot be repaired. I hope you live the rest of your life in shame. Too harsh?

The game was so successful I dont know if they would want to go there.....They still make a ton off of WoW and may jsut want to continue down that path.

I'm not a developer, but I also wonder if two decades worth of code on top of code affects the pipeline in a negative way. The last few patches have been notoriously buggy, but that's likely due to them restructuring the company with the merger more than anything.
