On the plus side, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Octopath, and Triangle Strategy are all safe, and deservedly so.
On the other hand, the AA games coming out of Square were bold and occassionally brimming with potential. I personally would have loved if Diofield could have taken off as an IP, because I can see where it could be excellent.
After a long string of very weak indie entries that left me scratching my head, this shift in strategy makes more sense than anything they've done in years.
I will always vote for quality over quantity, but now more than ever it seems the shovelware approach is no longer viable. Studios are folding left and right because they can't or won't take the time to create products worth buying.
I do hope we're all on the same page where the definition of "quality" is concerned. Having the best graphics is NOT more important than gameplay. Tacking voice acting onto a game that doesn't need it is just wasteful.
If they stop playing their "exclusivity games" with Sony, it would probably go a long way to creating a more positive and engaged play base. I've liked some of their indie and AA games. I hate not knowing if they will feel like publishing the game on my platform or if it will be a Play$tation exclusive.

Between ruining some western studios and their obsession with NFTs and Web3, I honestly don't care what happens with them at this point.
This right here. All the big studios are so geared for printing/milking money they have been cranking garbage for too long. The sad part is they see nothing wrong most of the time. Let's see if they are for real first.
My opinion is that there is no qualitative reason why FF7 Rebirth or FF16 should have financially failed on their merits. These are extremely good games. I'm playing FF16 now. It's a blast.
