What are your bets that she isn't allowed to raid Tombs anymore? She probably wont be allowed to have big boobs either or be sexy in any way. She wont be allowed to kill any natives or any animals, but white people will be fair game. Oh and she'll be a lesbian because being straight now is bad too...... Might even be trans lol. Edit: Oh and she might not even be white anymore either.

It depends on the showrunners. The Fallout series is super popular and well liked, so Amazon can clearly make a decent serial if the right people are involved.

Netflix, has hits and misses. The Witcher serial sucked, crashed, and burned. MAX made that shitty Velma series. Both have made some stellar shows as well.

I'm personally tired of live action translations and remakes. I like animated shows. Even though I love the Fallout IP, I'm not the least interested in watching a live action version. So, this is another easy skip for me, but that doesn't mean it's going to auto fail. We'll see.

In fairness there were already three Tomb Raider movies so it's not really something novel. This is just another attempt. I enjoyed the first Witcher though I had "quibbles," The new fallout is fine. I didn't really see the Velma series but I'm didn't care one way or another about their changes.

You're right, it really does depend on who the showrunners are.

I thought the "Rings of Power" was "ok" as entertainment but I had issues with some of their decisions and some of their story decisions.

I enjoyed the general Cowboy Bebop live adaptation as I think the actors did a great job and the look was spot on, but the lead show runner made decisions that just weren't necessary and pissed off the fanbase.

I think that's the issue, some people get their hands on the material and are so anxious to put "their" stamp on it that they tinker too much. They also like to use the excuse that changes need to be made when adapting from one medium to another but often they make changes that have nothing to do with the change in medium.

what is the bs line creative freedom I agree with you on the rings of power i think if i had never read the books it would have been better for me it was still good. The one they totally went off the rails with is the wheel of time in the first 5 minutes they changed something that i have no idea what the point was. They made so many changes and took to many liberties.

If they go woke, they can go the @#!? broke. What I liked about Tomb Raider, it wasn't the big boobs or other juvenile reasons. It was because the idea of finding an ancient civilization that was super advanced. Now that shit is cool. Also because the puzzles and game play was fun.

This.  I call it the tv show writers ego.

It like this new trend where a company spends $$$$ for an IP and then hires some people that are more interested in "putting their mark" or more interested in "adapting it" to suit their current political ideology etc etc and proceed to do so by butchering the source material till it's almost unrecognizable, this can be especially egregious when they get show writers that self admittedly don't like the source material to begin with.

What I then hate is they think they can take some world reknown authors material and make it "better".....and/or use excuses like they needed to adapt it for a newer younger audience cause different medium etc etc.

Legend of the Seeker, Wheel of Time, Chronicle of Shannara and the new Anne rice tv show adaptation all 110% fall into this daftness.

I dunno if you buy the right to a beloved book series with the intent to make a tv show.....I dunno but why fk with the recipe and authors good work....you paid for that in the first place so here'a n original thought why not use the source material more or less unmolested.

Add to that the new Nancy Drew, Dark Sabrina (Netflix), and I already mentioned Velma which heavily borrows from and rides on brand recognition for show that has nothing to do with the original.

The live action Avatar: The Last Airbender series on Netflix is another which totally changes characters, personalities, and events. The thing that really bothers me is that the animated series still holds up very well. It's great. It didn't need a reboot, among a long list of others that could use it. The upcoming Harry Potter reboot is another example.

On the other hand there have been some high quality series, like Lemony Snickets and His Dark Materials. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

I have more respect for screenwriters that respect the author and their material and try to faithfully translate it to whatever context they're tasked with. If they want full creative license, then they should publish their own. I also like it when writers pen their own screenplays.
