The one game people want to throw money at and valve is like nope.
The game don't look all that great. Same thing different flavor.
I don't believe the people who created Half-life are even there anymore, and the ones who are probably have no hunger or passion for it, Gabe and his partner Mike Harrington and Mikes wife may have been the ring leaders, but it was people from the Quake modding community who mostly created the Half-Life games.
Whatever story that they felt was in their power to tell, and tell in a way they were happy with, was likely Half-Life: Aylx; and that was set 5 years before the events of Half-Life 2, which means the best they could come up with is a origin story for one major character.
People really have to remember and understand what Valve was put through by the fans when just trying to create Half-Life 2, it's no wonder they left the game in such a dormant state for so long, it's so popular it's radioactive.
But i also believe Valves greatest asset is the mystique and illusion of a possible HL3, which I suspect is why they've never sold the rights off.

I find in 2024 I have no idea what will be successful and what wont...What looks like junk to me sells millions, and what looks like a great game goes under in less than a year. I have no idea what gamers want anymore. Generally this type of formula does pretty well, but all it takes is some "influencer" going to social media and saying they hate it, and the game will tank.

Influencers will literally blackmail companies with pay me this much to stream your game for 3 days or I will shit on your game for weeks.
Arizona even passed a law in 2022 against blackmail from social media influencers.
Is this genre really so popular it needed another entry? Seems like this crowd has moved on to the "extraction shooter".
While extraction shooters are trendy, the type of crowd that hero shooters is, is different from the hardcore crowd that is into extraction shooters.
For example, the typical CoD players who hate what CoD has turned into, a spammy, arcadey spergfest, switched over to something more slower paced and realistic such as Tarkov.
The art style already looks rather generic to me. Then again I don't play these kind of games so maybe that is what they are going for heh.
I've played them, this is definitely not what you want with your hero shooter. You want what Overwatch does with their characters, extremely unique character for every single one, that makes them memorable.
Hero shooter market is overcrowded, and this release would be hella late to the game(pun intended) chances of success are slim, but Valve does have basically unlimited budget so theres few things money cannot fix.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
