MMOs hold a special place in our hearts for creating some of the most beautiful locations you can experience in a virtual world. We took a stroll down memory lane and took a look at some of our favorites (and most nostalgic) in the genre.

The whole Elwynn Forest through to Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood and STV was so amazing to me in vanilla WoW. Just a perfect leveling experience.... But I always fall off the game after that, I had all the higher end zones and so I always get to like level 45 and quit.
I haven't played any MMOs since really, WoW was the last one to catch my interest.
Planetside and EVE Online were amazing, but they're not games with any memorable places.
Vanguard SoH had that mountain top starter zone overlooking the city on the water which was really cool.... Just a shame it felt like nothing was in it.
There was also this one zone in WildStar that was used as an artic R&R resort.
Lord of the Rings Online: the Northeast of Bree because it was an explorable area with something to find leading me to believe the whole game would be like that.

SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter
Still remember the first day arriving there with my first character after finishing the starter island.
Also, let's not forget Mos Eisley on Tatooine and Theed on Naboo in SWG.
EverQuest 2 with zones like Qeynos - The Willow Wood, Freeport - Scale Yard, Neriak, Fallen Gate etc. I could continue for days, this game had so many memorable locations
Warhammer Onlines Nordland or Altdorf
WoWs Molten Core comes to mind aswell
FFXIVs The Black Shroud
LotROs Bree-land and The Shire ofc
Tbh when I revisit those games it's mostly because of the nostalgia for those zones
The next MMORPG that truly made me have goosebumps and just overall feel as if I was magically transported and standing in a dream place is Teldrassil. I cannot ever forget the purple and pink hues together with the bizarre idea of living on top of this enormous tree. I mean it does make one think of Kelethin but this was a totally different and overwhelming experience. The whole area just oozes with character and atmosphere. The accompanying music just fits like a glove.
The next place that struck me is The Shire in Lord of the Rings Online. If ever there was a place I imagined hobbits lived in it would be there. The art style that this game used was really very suited to the world they created.
I recall coming upon Selbina in FFXI and think this is what a village by the sea should be like. Whether it was the arduous journey to get there or the prospect of getting my second job it has remained in my memory as a place that evokes salt tinged air and fish. The music helped a great deal.
Same here - Qeynos and the music that accompanies it the first time you arrive there. Also, I'm surprised Goldshire didn't make the list from WoW.
Yes was surprised about that too. Goldshire is the epitome of anything WoW, from crazy RP gatherings, PvP skirmishes to all kinds of hilarious memes.
And yeah... the music in EQ2 was incredible at the time. So many fond memories.
It was a shame it launched around the same time as WoW and was always stuck in it's shadow. I always felt that EQ2 was the better game of the two, even with it's flaws. ( *cough* shared XP debt. *cough* )

I love the moon zone in Wildstar. It is by far my favorite leveling experience in any MMO.
Ashvale Wow.
My first character in WoW was a Night Elf and I absolutely relate to this. Ended up playing horde for nearly my entire time in WoW but that first experience vibing in Teldrassil is the most nostalgic to me. I still have the music on my coding playlist while I work.
