  Cross play is included in the base game. Premium paid mods are added where you can find the existing mods.
  

  
  

  The premium mods I saw are $2 - $10, with most being $5 or $10. The popular full conversion mods are the most expensive. The $5 mods I saw were things like cryo revamps, a huge toothed whale dino and some custom crafting and taming stuff, crafting systems, revamps, and additions like the potion mod.

  
  

  The Ark mod interface in game is one of the nicest and easiest to use as well, which I like. The mod community in Ark feels like they're on board and into making both paid and free mods.

  
  

  One word of caution, most of the full conversion mods are works in progress, like most of them in other games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and 7 Days 2 Die. New areas, systems, and updates are being added to them. Check out the mod description and see what's done or not before buying in. Also, a lot of the full conversion mods still have a free version to check out so you can try it before spending money.
