AoC, I can't play it unless I dish out hundreds of dollars, I can only play it during a certain time, and when I do play it 1) it will be for a short while, 2) it won't have much to play, 3) most of it will be buggy as hell.
This is not a PvE game. It's 100% designed for people who like PvP to show up while they PvE. Randomlly or by the events design. If you watch the video, you will also see that PvP needs to be hulted to do PvE or they will lose the PvP Node War. Steven has said many times. Ashes is not for everyone. It's for people who enjoy PvX.
As for people that like the design of the PvE content in Ashes. Will have to learn to make friends for support or get skilled at defending them selves. Why? Because everyone is open to PvP at all times.
If you have corruption you accrue stat/skill penalties, you have a higher chance to drop carried/equipped gear, and you suffer 4x the death penalty while corrupted which includes longer stat penalties, xp loss, and durability loss (equipment in this game can break). You gain even more corruption for attacking lower level players.
Plus, if you are a node resident nearby you risk even more consequences.
95% of pvp should be events like guild wars, node wars, or caravans. You dont have to join in any of these if you dont want to.
The flagging system in Ashes is awesome. Attacking someone has some real negitve effects if PvP is not consensual. I loved in Linage going after PKers that did just that.
I wonder about these complex systems (more complex = more exploitation) being engineered to service so few players. Dealing with random PKs seems to be a huge expense when you could write them out entirely and just have guild/node wars.
