    One line will cause me to ignore this entire post and just sigh.

    "or transfer over to one of the new servers"

    I was excited that maybe I could start my FF14 journey with a fresh world where everything is untouched still.

    Why?

    Well, I never played FF14 past level 5 long ago. Just never got into it.

    I just feel like what is the purpose of New Servers if people can transfer to them and possibly monopolize/ruin the experience of a fresh world for those unfamiliar.

    Or am I reading the article wrong?

    I'll keep an eye on this for sure. :)

    What exactly is it about an "untouched" server that excites you? What parts do you imagine being monopolized or ruined? If you only played to level 5, you may not have a very good idea of what those things could even mean in the context of this game.

    I didn't realize housing was still locked behind a lottery in this game. Imagine paying a monthly subscription to a game where you have to enter a lottery to access the content you're paying for.

    I imagine it is being allowed to encourage existing character migration so that the population of old and new servers will be more balanced overall.

    Also, EVERY player in FF14 can have an apartment, and any player can join a free company and enjoy the free company's house, so you aren't ever completely locked out of the "content you're paying for."

    It isn't. A house earned by completing a battle pass is a guaranteed unlock. It's not as though such are hard to complete. One gained through random lottery is about as guaranteed as winning the lottery, a dismal option in comparison.

    Counterpoint: Battle passes often take a lot of time and effort to complete, and often require you to engage with the game in ways you don't enjoy. It's like having a job, but you pay your employer.

    In contrast, the housing lottery is a necessary evil based on technical limitations. I'm sure they'd love to be able to give everyone a housing plot, but I'm glad they are protecting the stability and performance by imposing practical boundaries.

    Also, everyone does get their own personal island now, where you can place all the outdoor furnishings you want, as well as inviting your friends over to see it. So, again, you do have access to all the content, just not in a public zone.

    I don't know about you guys but none of the ways of getting a house seems that easy to me, which is a good thing, we need difficulty in MMOs not "press one button to succeed" all the time.
