Long have I dreamed of the day they would separate Scholar from Summoner, as the only jobs that actually use the class system in any meaningful way.

We've heard the old "too cost-intensive" song and dance before, but sometimes things happen anyway if the team wants to get it done (e.g., flying in the original zones). So given that it's something Yoshi-P himself admits they would like to do, maybe ... ?

When Shadowbringers became really popular Square Enix executives said they would spare no expense to improve FF14 to ensure that popularity is long lasting.

    But, then, immediately...

    Better servers - too expensive
Female Hrothgar in Endwalker - too expensive
Helms for new races - too expensive
Separating Summoner and Scholar - too expensive

But they had enough money to improve the graphics.

Shows where the priority for funds really is.

To be fair, the better server hardware was only delayed... from shortages on the hardware that the whole world was struggling with from Covid. They delivered the upgrades. And we did get female Hrothgar in Endwalker!

They spruced up the lighting system, some of the dungeons from the beginning of the game got a rework, and any new content has always gotten better graphics to slowly keep the game from looking dated, gear is always being reworked to let viera and hrothgar wear more of the hats they couldn't, outfits have gotten gender unlocked to fit everyone. They're really responsive to the community.

I'm wondering... if they're re-thinking skipping having a field instanced area for Endwalker like Eureka and Bozja? It sounds like they're wishing to get one done anyway, or finding other opportunities bringing people together for those players who run content together, interact together in open world roleplay, and join free companies. Once we finish the ten years worth of main story quest, whether we run it solo or in our groups, theres still so much to run around and enjoy. Playing with others becomes more appealing after you're hooked on the immersion of the game.

After reading/seeing some media tour videos now that the embargo has been lifted; i am super excited about my main job Monk; which i've pretty much mained since the arr launch and nothing else; just got a 'party-wide heal' - i repeat, I'M A HEALER NOW.

    image

Assuming they don't nerf or change this before the expansion launch; as this information isn't final yet which the content creator i watched stated; this may very well change the whole Savage/Ultimate party role dynamic going forward and my job is going to be highly prioritised in statics and PF.

Which i am very VERY gleefully happy about, because Monk's been sitting on the sidelines for awhile ever since we got super nerfed during the first phase of Shadowbringers launch, and then Reaper/Samurai stole the spotlight in Endwalker.

Our time has come again my Monk siblings. Assuming they don't nerf us again.

This is my opinion so don't take it the wrong way. I think the game studio should not cater to the perverted western culture that has been rotting our entertainment and politics. They should do what they, and other studios, do best; and that is express Japanese culture through their art and life styles. The rest of the world can like it or hate it. Allowing cross dressing does not sound Japanese to me. Though fixing hats and other clothing pieces so it fits any race is good.

Like the other poster above me said. It was COVID, skyrocketing server hardware prices with wait times exceeding a year, that delayed the upgrades.
I know, as I work in IT and many of my customers had to postpone projects to over a year due to wait times on new hardware.

They did eventually do the upgrades and now they adding extra servers in preparation of the Dawntrail expansion launch.  The European Data center even gets a whole temporary new "Data center" added today, to deal with congestion when the expansion goes live.

Have you even played any FF games?  They always been heavily inspired on Western culture. Look at the characters and setting of the various FF games.

It's why Final Fantasy is such a popular franchise world wide.
I feel like FF has it's own identity and style (with the different unique races, etc)  that takes inspiration of many different cultures. Nothing wrong with that.

Stormblood expansion actually touched on Japanese culture for example (was my favorite part of the expansion).
And now Dawntrail is going to touch on South American/Mayan culture.

It's the same with the Pokemon franchise and why that has grown into a succesful global franchise as well.

There are plenty of Japanese and Korean games that push Manga games that sexualizes teen girls with big boobs. If that is what you're getting at. We don't need that gross crap in FFXIV thank you very much.
That is a dark side in both Japanese and South Korean culture that doesn't need to be promoted and pushed even harder than it already is.

There are so many other aspects of Japanese culture, like Architecture, history, Samurai, etc that I rather see promoted and both SE and GameFreak have done that in their franchises, like I already mentioned.
