I don't think the concern was ever that it wouldn't happen. The concern is that the current design team doesn't really understand what made the original so special, or what players are actually looking for in a VtM: Bloodlines game.

Absolutely. I was horrified watching their game play reveal.

There are the two versions of "me." The one who accepts they decided to create the game using their own personal vision. The is the predominate "me" as it's their property, they can do whatever they'd like.

Then there is the "I can't believe these decisions" 'me.'

This is the one who is a bit "miffed" because they just decided to do their own thing, no respect for the property that came before.

I find show runners do this with ip's. They get some sort of ip they are creating the show/movie for and they just have to add their own personal flavor instead of respecting the source material. They like to use the excuse that changes have to be made when going from one medium to another. But a lot of times their changes have nothing to do with difference between the mediums and more to do with wanting to make the story "theirs." feh!

Every director/show runner/author likes to put their vision into what they are making, if this is a well known book, game etc they want to show that this is not just a retread. This can be done in many ways from an unseen (in the IP but not seen before) location in the opening shots to the story arc.

As Sovrath mentioned a lot has to change when the medium is changed, but this was already a video game. I have noticed some changes from VtM 5e (which they jumped to for the new game), this was in the vampiric powers. I don't know the story, that's the sort of spoiler I try to avoid.

I want this game to be good. I liked VtM Bloodlines but I liked even more VtM Redemption. That game lives rent free in my fondest of memories.

I wish I could trust producers and writes in 2024 as I did in 2000 and 2004 but I know that chances are close to 0.

I envy the youngsters. They are given turd after turd but they never tasted anything better so it's ok but gen X lives in a constant depression over modern gaming.

I think there is a difference between having a show runner or whoever the decision maker is, making decisions based off their training/artistic preference, and just outright changing things that were never in the game/story.

Take the ending of the live action "Cowboy Bebop." That could have been an amazing show. But they kept changing things here and there. Heck, they changed the ending.

For this game, they took a bit of agency out of the player by granting them a pre-made character with an annoying "edgy" name and voice. I feel they made a vampire game using the rule set but not a real successor to Bloodlines.
