Free Companies (Guilds) are now cross-server, just as the Duty system is cross-server queueing. So there is literally no reason to suffer through horrendous queues out of fear of being stuck on a low pop server. And if you really want to be on a high pop server, because you want to see lots of people in the cities. Just wait a couple months after the expansion launch, when the initial rush dies down and players revert back to more moderate playtimes, queue times go down and just transfer back.

I've never really used Data Center Travel, so I have questions.

If my use of Duty Finder will be minimal during the first couple of weeks of Dawntrail, would it be best to travel to a Dynamis server BEFORE June 28? Will that actually get me into the game faster after launch? If I were to log out on the Golem server (for example), I'd still be there when I try to log back in?

I have never used it either, but if I understand correctly, you can initiate Server travel via the Character Select screen?

What I understand is server travel is easy (not sure how its done). I find this very questionable as we have seen many times before the issues that can arise when players jump around from one server to another.

It is actually working and not new in FFXIV.  It has been available for quite a long time now and I know that quite a few people in my FC are using it regularly to visit eachother.
Just that I myself never used it, as I did not have the need for it (yet).

The Probationary Data Center in Europe is new, but it will be using the same Server Travel feature that exists today in FFXIV.

You are right! I always forget there's a right-click menu on that screen. However, I've learned that you cannot access your retainers while on another data center, which is going to be a hardship. Gotta keep them leveled up so they can fetch my crafting resources!

To clarify: Yeah, Data Center travel has been around. You access it before you log in as your toon, by right-clicking them on the Character Select screen; you have to make sure they're in their home server, at least, I believe. This is how you access Probationary World servers. There's a small delay, and the delay grows as more people queue, but it's a generally brief process.

World Travel, which is server traveling within the same Data Center, is viable even once you're on your character, and has been around for a hot minute. You go to one of the three ARR hub cities (Limsa, Ul'dah, Gridania), go to the big Aetheryte, and go from there.

I did know its been around ages, posters on here have said before they don't see the concerns I bring up about it. Which revolve around everything from "server loyalty" (yes that used to be a thing :) ) to unbalancing of servers due to PvP issues. But I will say I have yet to see a FFXIV player have similar concerns, so it seems to work for them.
