I can hardly see a difference in these photos, and in a couple I couldn't even tell which was supposed to be better.
It's confusing because the comparisons aren't consistent. The first two pics (shield & environment) show after & before, but the character models show before & after.
It's huge IMO. Updating these details isn't easy. I appreciate every producer who cares about graphical updates, especially on MMORPGs that have been on the market for a while.
RX480 , must be a lowest possible setting, I tried the game on rx580 and it was pretty chunky. They should redo the guidence too rx500 series and recommend a rx6700 as they are almost a mid tier card at a low tier price under $300
Pretty subtle updates. Nothing here making me itch to sign back up. Honestly, I think if you didn't put them side by side and instead put them on different pages and asked me to pick which version was updated I'd be guessing.
I played FFXIV before the reborn rework where they reduced pretty much all the detail in texture's to improve performance what I'm seeing here is them restoring those textures now PC hardware and now console can handle them lol
The world environment updates are far more significant than the characters, but part of the problem with the character previews is they're shown in a best possible scenario and sterile environment making it harder to spot the differences than it is with the environments. Seeing the characters in the environment would be a better example. The updates to the engine have also enabled them to significantly increase the things they can pack into a zone compared to before, so there will be a great deal more ambient details than it currently has.

Not true because FFXIV 1.0/Pre-Reborn used an entirely different engine than the FFXIV we have today, they just did a good job replicating the intended art style. The materials, texture, and lighting updates are entirely new as their current engine had to go extensive updates for them to even be possible, these examples are more of a progress report than the finished state and Yoshi P referred to this as the first graphics upgrade of multiple.
The before-after facials facing different directions, which is also changing the way the light hits their faces, you can definitely tell that there is a difference, but I hate that, it adds an extra step when I try to process it. You can certainly see the different textures used in the landscape shots and more trees, but they look like they were captured at different times in the day cycle. While you can certainly pick out the differences (soulless eyes before, expressive after) they're not exacting, and sometimes a bit confusing and make you wonder if the shadows and light sources were also moved around.

I see it now, the hair
everybody knows males don't exist in anime, you are either female or a femboy
