When this was announced I was really hoping it'd be something the wife and I could play together. Sadly, the co-op features weren't implemented very well and she quickly lost interest. If the formula was tweaked, I'm sure it would be/could've been a good escape for some people. As it stands now though, I doubt any milquetoast update could get her to reinstall and try it again.

This was pretty much my experience as well. I couldn't even give her stuff and build a home together. Maybe they fixed that now, but I guess it's too little too late.

Well, I did enjoy the game somewhat but now I won't be touching it again. I will not touch anything Daybreak owns with a 100-foot pole, they are such a scummy and predatory business. Can't believe Singularity sold to these clowns. This is the company that kills games. I guess they got to make a quick buck instead of a decent game though...
"Palia has not had a banner year so far, with multiple rounds of layoffs, including one that happened just weeks after its rough Steam Launch. Most recently, Singularity 6 laid off around 40% of its staff in May, so it'll be interesting if this acquisition by Daybreak allows the company to scale up and potentially re-hire many of those affected by the previous moves by the studio. "
Daybreak had some layoffs as well this year (at least 45 reduced headcount according to its interim 2024 report) and lets face it, they are not exactly known for increasing the size of studios they acquire, generally the opposite with scaling down the staff, reorganizing whatever term they use.
Daybreak's goal is to be a middle market / manager publisher in games so this acquisition is right up their alley. I would be more surprised by them re-hiring many laid off folks than with the actual merger / acquisition itself.

Same. I felt like the game was lost between being a casual, social MMO but at the same time, not being social. People were just there and you just ran around and did stuff and went back to your instanced home. Everything else the game offered, other games did either better or with other gaming systems that I enjoyed. I just had little reason (or desire) to play.

That and it felt like you were playing it in a giant tub, far from open world.
They launched a super cash shop heavy, two zone, browser game with almost zero content and were surprised it didn't take the world by storm? Their problem wasn't that it was cozy, lots of cozy games are very popular. The problem was that it wasn't anywhere near finished. It had a lot of promise but when your open world social MMO has less 'world' than most indie games made with RPG Maker you might want to reconsider.
IDK, this game reportedly has over 100,000 active players across all platforms, certainly a decent percentage of those players are spending money, which makes this a worthwhile and profitable acquisition for Daybreak, and obviously for Singularity 6 who was at one point not long ago working on a second game, not just Palia. The layoffs have been industry wide, and not always a sign of a company doing that poorly, as development costs are currently very high across the board and this is a small studio.
Daybreak also has multiple games in active development, and I think acquiring smaller studios with promising titles is a smart move for them.

I agree with this, they still develop the games they have.

Welp this game is dead!
The new GameForge.
That could be wrong, I only messed with it for a couple of hours.
It would have been more engaging if people could be neighbors and build a town together.

I'd load it up again and give it a shot if they did.

I think the two EQs keep them alive with all their expansions and TLP servers.

I just with they'd buy Rift!
