Dead motherboard? I assume

Maybe Im crazy, but any input would be nice.
Bought a Gigabyte x670 E aorus master motherboard.
Five hours of build and cable management and wouldnt turn on. no fans, not aorus ligths. just the power switch by the ram which this board comes with.

so i remove motherboard. place on table- connect psu appropiate power and a couple case fans.  **nothing** just the power switch light next to the ram.

the fans should still kick on right? there doesnt have to be a cpu or ram or gpu installed does it. Reason im saying this is i went back in frustration just  table test it after removing eveything for a RMA.  -ive never in 30 years had a DOA, so this throws me.

thanks

So there is a power switch light on the motherboard that turns on? And it's the only light on the motherboard that's on?

Aorus Master should have status LEDs, look at page 20 of:
      https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_x670e-aorus-master_1103_e.pdf?v=54c13ebeec9f5a46ebba720fb5759a45

If the motherboard has a light on then it's getting power (at least some), but none of those status lights are on and it doesn't do anything, that sounds like problem with the motherboard.

EDIT: Also, just to make sure: You have noticed that the motherboard has two places for power cables from PSU and connected both of them?

Yes both 8 pin power cables and main harness connected.
No status LEDs as indicated on page 20
