Everyone is waiting for «the feature» that will transform this game and elevate it to it’s «ultimate» phase - which is procedually generated large cities / cityplanets.
I wonder if they will ever pull that off or not

I mean I think they could probably do procedural generation of the buildings. However it would be a planetary ghost town unless they can populate it with realistic inhabitants going about their day. It would be nice if at least some would interact with you. I think that's where generative AI could help but I don't think we've gotten that technology cheap enough that they could include it in the game and not charge extra for it.

Yeah, i mean - they do it with small outposts, but you are correct. Creating a «busy» city might be too much for the game engine to handle

But, is it fun? This is where it stops me from playing. I can't find the fun in "survival" games.

NMS isn't really a survival game. If it were it wouldn't have "survival" mode and "normal" mode. They would be one in the same. Normal mode is more of a combination of base building and exploration. There's an actual story although nothing forces you to follow it. In the very beginning it sorta acts like a survival game because you start with nothing but a basic multitool and have to build and research everything from there. However there's no food/water/rest meters. What's going to kill you are environmental hazards , flora, fauna, space pirates, or sentinels. Once you get your first base built and get your first spaceship any survival elements largely disappear. It's mostly about upgrading your gear, your bases, your ships, frigate, and surface vehicles. And at some point you'll probably dig into the actual story. Anyway it's pretty fun. I highly recommend it.
