If you blame company policies like DEI and associated type policies as the reason games have declined, then you are ignorant at best. To be honest, most people do not even understand what DEI means and only use it as a buzzword for hate. Period.
Blizzard's decline was self-inflicted and we all know it. For those of us who have been around since the 90s can attest, we knew the minute that Blizzard made WOW and it got so big, things were going to change.
Blizzard's issue is that they have a room full of board members who want to sell games and forgot to think about what the gamer wants. The Blizzard of old made good games because they kept the gamer in mind. New Blizzard cares about the bottom line. Activision destroyed Blizzard and we all saw it coming from a mile away.
Like most major companies, Blizzard sees where the money is and that is where they are placing their bets.....Mobile games arent going away anytime soon.....People are most likely going to have smart phones until the end of time, and these devices will only continue to get better.

Diablo Immortal has been widely successful since launch and Warcraft rumble has done well too. Mobile gaming is here to stay for sure.
I think this announcement also has to do with putting games on gamespass as well, especially games developed for Xbox too.

Warcraft Rumble started OK, but its numbers have utterly tanked in terms of both downloads and revenue. I would not call it successful in its current state.
Diablo Immortal's numbers have also sharply dropped since its gangbusters debut, but last I heard, it was still making enough money to keep its head off the chopping block.
Neither game has enjoyed the level of sustained revenue I suspect Blizzard was hoping for.
I personally have had enough of Blizzard and it's terrible practices. Being bought by another behemoth company like Microsoft didn't soften their reputation but solidified it. I am pro indie and small studios now.
Oh yeah things were so much better at Blizzard when they were molesting their staff and sharing pics. DEI my ass.
What does molesting have to do with this AA group?
Here's the thing. We have posters complaining that DEI is what is causing the decline in quality of Blizzard games. That things were better when they were to quote the lawsuit
"Male employees proudly come into work hungover, play video games for long periods of time during work while delegating their responsibilities to female employees, engage in banter about their sexual encounters, talk openly about female bodies, and joke about rape," and continues
The suit states that female workers at Activision Blizzard were subjected to constant sexual harassment, including having to "continually fend off unwanted sexual comments" and advances by their male co-workers and supervisors during the "cube crawls" and other company events
So who exactly was doing the work then in the halcyon days of good games that some posters are alluding to. So at a workplace where these things were going on would be better because 'they made better games then". Which apparently isn't even true since as others have pointed out they were in decline long before that.
I am hardly surprised that if you came to work drunk and hangover the quality of your work would decline not to mention if you then spend your time molesting the staff that are doing the work and playing video games like the office is your hobby room.
So if you bothered to read the thread you would realise where we veered off to DEI and that was why I made that comment. It has nothing to do with the AA group. My reply was to the other comments made. Read before you cherry pick.
Scot gets out his old drum and starts banging on it.
Guys steer clear of the politics, you are good posters on here, some guys on here don't post from one blue moon to the next. We don't want to lose you.
Period in that instance is for emphasis not for completion. Its to highlight the fact that any and all DEI arguments related to Blizzard or any company's success or failure is ignorant at best.
Pentiment was a huge AA success for Obsidian. It's a quirky niche title that registered with fans. If Blizzard can pull something like that off, then they may be on the right track.
However, I have fairly low confidence in their corporate culture to do so. Ever since the failed StarCraft Ghost product, it's been clear that Blizzard is almost a one trick pony. If they don't have a big no brainer "sure fire" idea, they don't seem to have the ability to forge ahead and make something. They basically know how to do one thing, and that's WoW. Other than that, eh.
Now that they aren't a must buy for people, they have to lower risks by lowering development costs. Maybe going smaller will work out on a new IP they can expand upon.
Would hearthstone have been considered AA on launch? It was really fun but also much smaller in scope than their other games.
