we are creating a game that is also going to be the most important social platform for millions of players

Color me extremely skeptical on that claim. You're going to bump Facebook, TikTok and Instagram into 2nd place for millions of people? I'll believe it when I see it.

Hasn't this game already been built 1/2 dozen times already?

Yeah I swear I've seen a game like this pitched with these bold statements 20 times before. Most vanish like a fart in the wind with a year or two; and when it happens we are left going what company was this again?

Is this going to be an actual social game like a real world person and gamer would talk or the care bear nancy WoW social contract social?

So I actually looked through their web site.  They seem to have set out to demonstrate that you don't need blockchain in order to have all of the problems of blockchain "games".  They're very interested in real-money trading of game assets, but don't say anything at all about the underlying game that they're going to base that real-money trading on.  That's a train wreck waiting to happen.

There is an old saying that a fool and his money are soon parted.  So who is the fool in this case that would invest millions of dollars into something that smells more like a scam than an actual game?  Apparently it's the government of Finland.  That kind of makes sense, as governments who try to play venture capitalist are notoriously bad at it, as they're commonly more sensitive to political concerns than a company's ability to actually make money.

Another platform for predators of the baby hunting persuasion?

Roblox for adults ? Well Roblox is something I'll never let my children play on. Things that go on there without control is truly bad stuff. Why are they not cracking down on it.

Social MMOs should never be for children. Way too many predators there.

This has been brought to you by your rather cynical granny on weed tea.

The got some money from government, but they also got some money from venture capitalists. And they have apparently "early playtesting results by thousands of players" for the game that's planned to release early access this year. Even if we don't know what the game is about, those investors should have been able to do early playtesting and see it before they committed to this investment round.

I'm going to be cynical and predict that the game is likely to suck. But to me it looks like a legit high-risk start-up that got a good enough round of funding to make it to early access release.

This smells very much like a non-game wrapped in a Second Life candy shell.
